Location: This role will initially be based in Bradford but we’re moving our office to Leeds Valley Park in summer 2026, so you’ll be based there in the future - Hybrid Working (2 days in the office a week – Bradford/Leeds)

Work type: Permanent. 37 hours per week, Monday – Friday.

We have an exciting opportunity for a Third Party Claims Handler to join the Insurance team at Yorkshire Water and be a part of helping Yorkshire Water to provide the best service to our customers. Could this be you?

We’re looking for someone who loves talking to people, communicates confidently and clearly, and can handle sensitive situations with empathy. If you stay calm under pressure, keep yourself organised, and make good decisions on your own this is the role for you!

Where you fit in:

As our Third Party Claims Handler you will:

  • Manage a diverse caseload of third-party public liability claims – Including but not limited to Personal Injury and Property damage claims from first contact to final resolution.
  • Keep accurate, UpToDate records in Figtree the insurance system, including financial provisions and payment processing.
  • Make informed decisions on invoices, quotations and settlements up to £200k, following regulatory requirements.
  • Review and interpret detailed loss adjuster reports, medical reports and legal advice to progress claims effectively.
  • Work closely with internal teams and external partners to investigate claims and gather evidence.
  • Determine appropriate actions for each claim and negotiate fair settlements where required.
  • Handle challenging conversations confidently and make sound decisions based on case specifics.
  • Prioritise workload independently, managing your diary and preventing potential escalations.
  • Prepare witness statements and attend court when necessary.
  • Support the customer experience, helping resolve issues efficiently and effectively.
  • Contribute to improving processes and support the development of Claims Assistants.

What skills & qualifications you will need:

  • Strong communicator who can liaise confidently with people at all levels, both internally and externally.
  • Excellent written communication and a professional, friendly telephone manner.
  • Comfortable working independently, using initiative and making sound decisions without close supervision.
  • Highly organised with the ability to multitask, manage deadlines and stay on top of a busy workload.
  • Strong operational understanding to assess liability effectively.
  • Previous experience of handling personal injury claims.
  • Experience of using the Official Injury Claim (OIC) portal or Ministry Of Justic (MOJ) portal and dealing with the strict legal timeframes involved.
  • A general understanding of the Civil Procedure Rules (CPR) that govern how civil cases (personal injury claims) are managed in the courts.
  • A broad understanding of the Pre-Action Protocols (Pre-Court Steps).
  • Knowledge of the Water Industry Act (advantageous).
  • Familiarity with ICE, Figtree, Odyssey or SAP systems (advantageous).
  • Understanding of legal liability.
