Position Overview

Location: London or Leeds

Job Title: Insurance Manager

The Insurance Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and managing Turner & Townsend’s global insurance strategy, ensuring the organisation is adequately protected against potential losses through a cost-effective programme, robust claims management, and proactive risk mitigation.


Key Responsibilities

Insurance Programme Management

  • Lead the design, implementation, and ongoing management of Turner & Townsend’s global insurance programme, aligning with business needs, risk profiles, and legal/regulatory requirements.
  • Oversee the annual insurance renewal programme, engaging with internal stakeholders, brokers, and insurers.
  • Maintain accurate records of insurance policies, claims, and supporting documentation.
  • Conduct regular reviews of insurance policies to identify coverage gaps, exclusions, or inefficiencies.
  • Collaborate with Finance to manage the insurance budget, including premium forecasting and claims provisioning.

Claims Management

  • Oversee the entire claims lifecycle, from notification to resolution, ensuring timely and cost-effective outcomes.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for significant claims, coordinating with brokers, insurers, and internal/external stakeholders.
  • Analyse claims data to identify trends, root causes, and mitigation opportunities, supporting the Risk Management team.
  • Provide periodic claims reporting, including costs, provisions, and potential risks.

Business Engagement & Risk Leadership

  • Offer expertise on insurance-related matters, including liaising with brokers and assessing risk transfer strategies.
  • Advise on best practices for risk management, business continuity, and contractual risk transfer.
  • Work with the broader Risk Management team to:
    • Champion a strong risk culture through awareness initiatives and learning & development.
    • Conduct periodic risk assessments to assess the evolving risk landscape.
    • Implement risk mitigation strategies to reduce insurable losses.
    • Identify, assess, and quantify risks across global operations.
  • Assist with mergers and acquisitions due diligence where required.
  • Stay updated on regulatory changes, insurance market trends, and emerging risks.

Stakeholder Relationships

  • Report to the Global Head of Risk Management (based in London).
  • Interface with:
    • External advisors: Brokers, insurers, and lawyers.
    • Internal teams: Enterprise Risk Management, Assurance, Legal & Contract Risk, Ethics & Compliance, and Data Privacy.
    • Operational leadership: Regional Managing Directors, Boards, and RM reps.
    • Central Services: Finance, HR, and executive leadership (CEO, COO, CFO).
  • Collaborate occasionally with CBRE’s insurance and legal teams (CBRE is Turner & Townsend’s majority owner).

Requirements

  • Professional qualification (e.g., Chartered Insurance Institute Level II+) or equivalent experience.
  • Demonstrable insurance management experience, ideally in a global consulting firm or construction-related sector.
  • Ability to design and implement a flexible, growth-aligned insurance strategy.
  • Strong commercial awareness of insurance/broking markets.
  • Exceptional communication skills—ability to translate complex insurance concepts for non-experts.
  • Ability to engage across organisational levels.
  • Analytical rigor and meticulous attention to detail.
  • Capacity to work flexibly across time zones when required.
  • Self-directed, proactive, and resilient.
