The Opportunity

Reporting to the Group Head of Insurance, the Insurance Manager plays a pivotal role in safeguarding Arup’s assets and business interests through the effective management of global insurance programmes. This position is responsible for ensuring that Arup maintains comprehensive and cost-effective insurance coverage aligned with the organisation’s risk profile and strategic objectives.

The role involves close collaboration with senior stakeholders across Arup’s Legal, Finance, and Risk Management teams, as well as regional and global management boards. You will act as a trusted advisor on insurance-related matters, providing expert guidance on policy interpretation, claims management, and risk mitigation strategies. In addition, you will lead negotiations with brokers and insurers to secure optimal terms and foster strong, long-term relationships with key external partners.

You will utilise your insurance expertise in the following areas of work at Arup:

  • Managing and developing relationships with brokers and insurers.
  • Assessing insurable risks, investigating available cover, and checking that policy wordings meet Arup’s requirements.
  • Act as a trusted advisor on insurance matters, including policy interpretation, claims management, and risk mitigation.
  • Providing guidance to Arup teams on the scope of our insurances and claims notification requirements.
  • Advising global project and bid teams on project insurance requirements.
  • Analysis of claims data and reporting on lessons learned.
  • Preparing underwriting information and submissions to insurers for renewals and mid-term changes.
  • Assisting with the procurement of project specific insurance policies.
  • Undertaking research into areas of risk and liability.
  • Monitoring emerging risks.
  • Support continuous improvement of insurance processes.

Is this role right for you?

We seek insurance professionals with the following skills and experience:

  • Experience of working in an insurance role within the construction or professional services industry. That experience could be in a claims, underwriting, or broking role within the insurance industry or from an inhouse insurance management function in these industries.
  • Good working knowledge of professional indemnity, public liability, cyber, and D&O insurances.
  • Qualifications: ACII Qualified or equivalent insurance or risk management qualification.
  • Strong analytical and organisational skills.
  • Diligent at record keeping.
  • Confident verbal and written communicator, used to advising and working with individuals at all levels, from executive board member to apprentices and graduate trainees.
  • Team player and developing leader.
  • Strong organisational and analytical skills with a great attention to detail.
