About the Role

The Potato Receiving Team Leader plays a critical role in manufacturing and supply chain environments, overseeing the procurement, quality, and smooth flow of raw materials necessary for efficient production. This position combines leadership, organizational, and technical expertise to ensure operational efficiency and compliance with company and industry standards.

Responsibilities and Accountabilities

  • Lead a shift team of multi-skilled operatives to deliver production targets while ensuring all safety, food safety and operational (OEE) targets are met.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure effective operation of the business.
  • Support colleagues in driving continuous improvement (Mismatch Date Intake, MDI):
    • Lead team huddles.
    • Support Correction/Idea/Assessment (CID) routes and Centreline management for the area.
    • Conduct safety and food safety coaching conversations and audits.
    • Support renewability by actively engaging in the defect handling process.
    • Proactively address hour-by-hour variance from the plan through abnormality management.
  • Coach and mentor team members to achieve full multi-skilling of all operatives, by facilitating training and upskilling opportunities.
  • Conduct safety and food safety investigations as required.
  • Manage team performance by addressing areas requiring improvement at regular Performance@Work (P@M) reviews.
  • Ensure optimal staffing levels by proactively managing holidays and other absences.
  • Coordinate with Team Leaders and Shift Managers to organise flexible staff appointments across the department to support overall operational efficiency.
  • Address day-to-day team issues such as absence, disciplinary matters, and grievances in line with Company policy.
  • Undertake project work at area, site, department, or regional levels, delivering projects to agreed standards and timescales.
  • Ensure Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Safe Working Methods (SWM) are up-to-date, implement optimisations, and guarantee compliance among colleagues.
  • Oversee the completion of daily and weekly cleaning schedules in line with 5S, Health and Food Safety, and Environmental standards.

Experience

  • Essential:
    • Working in a manufacturing environment
    • Leading a team of people
  • Desirable:
    • Experience within a food manufacturing operation

Knowledge

  • Essential:
    • Understanding of continuous improvement methodologies
    • Basic food hygiene principles
    • Health and Safety requirements within Food Manufacturing & Consumer Goods (FMCG)
  • Desirable:
    • Advanced food hygiene principles
    • Knowledge of Lean manufacturing techniques

Work Details

The role operates Monday to Friday, primarily the dayshift, and requires 40 hours per week. The team is based at the Wombourne plant in Staffordshire and collaboratively produces Potato Smiles and pre-baked Jacket Spuds.
