Job Overview
This is a developmental role for a Registered Nurse, who will be employed to provide care and support for clients in the rapidly developing speciality of Integrated Sexual Health.
This post provides the opportunity for development and enhancement of clinical expertise and innovative practice within the field of integrated sexual health care. Support for training opportunities will be provided with the expectation that the post holder will be competent and confident in the provision of frontline clinical care, sexually transmitted infection results and data management, and specific targeted health interventions.
The post holder will be working within a specialist clinical team in a positive learning environment which will enable the development of skills to provide contraceptive intervention and protocol guided sexually transmitted and reproductive tract infection management.
The post holder will support the delivery of a high-quality service by providing evidence-based care, actively engaging with service development initiatives and maintain clear communication with service users, colleagues, management and other professionals.
This is a developmental role and there will be the expectation for the post holder to travel to other clinics within Suffolk for education and training purposes. Weekend working is a requirement of this role.
Main duties of the job
- To develop an awareness of STI risks, methods of STI management.
- To develop skills of sexual health promotion, and have the ability to give information and refer as appropriate
- To provide sexually transmitted infection testing and be aware of referral policies
- Develop skills of integrated sexual health assessment for both males and females including physical examination.
- Following appropriate in-house training participate in the results management of sexually transmitted and reproductive tract infections
- Carry out venepuncture for specific sexually transmitted infection (STI) testing
- Assess clients for STI risk and advise accordingly
- Achieve a range of clinical competencies as required within the Service in line with the post profile and Professional Development Plan and department competency framework within time frame agreed with line manager.
- Undertake training for use of patient group directions and apply to practice.
- Work towards successful completion of Faculty of Sexual and Reproductive Healthcare electronic knowledge assessment and Diploma
- Undertake training in specific clinical procedures (implant fitting and removal) as appropriate
- Participate in training to develop competence in results management and non-face to face intervention

Essential criteria
- NMC Level 1 Registered Nurse
- Infection prevention awareness
- Safeguarding knowledge and experience of assessment
- Willingness to undertake practical and professionally accredited training linked to integrated sexual health development
- Ability to work between sites and efficiently travel across Suffolk
- Willingness and ability to work evenings and Saturdays.
Desirable criteria
- Documented evidence of further studying/training
- A recognised contraception qualification or currently working towards
- Previous experience or currently working in specialty of integrated sexual health
- Experience of working to Patient Group Directions (PGD's)
- Use of electronic patient record systems
