When a retiring IFA hands over the business they have spent a career building, the experience of that transition matters - to them, to their clients, and to us. At Mattioli Woods, we are looking for someone who understands that, and who has the relationship skills, commercial judgement, and operational discipline to make it work every time.

This is a senior, relationship-led role at the heart of our Retiring IFA Acquisition Strategy (RIAS). The programme through which we acquire client books and smaller practices from retiring advisers and principals. You will be the person they trust to guide them through the process, and the person who makes sure the integration delivers for everyone involved.

The opportunity

Reporting to the Managing Director of Wealth, you will manage the end-to-end journey of each RIAS transaction, from early engagement through to full integration. You will work in close partnership with the Director of Mergers & Acquisitions, who originates and sources deals, and take ownership of execution and relationship management from that point forward.

This is not a business development role. It is a role for someone who excels at building trust with senior professionals at a significant moment in their careers, coordinating complex internal and external stakeholders, and delivering integrations that are smooth, compliant, and genuinely good for clients.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

What you'll be doing

  • Managing a pipeline of concurrent RIAS transactions from initial engagement through to completion
  • Acting as the primary point of contact and trusted guide for retiring advisers and principals throughout the process
  • Leading the integration of acquired client books and businesses into the Group's wealth management structure
  • Coordinating across compliance, operations, People, and client-facing teams to ensure smooth and timely delivery
  • Overseeing the onboarding of advisers who join the business as part of an acquisition
  • Monitoring integration progress and reporting on milestones, client retention, and return on investment to senior leadership
  • Contributing to the ongoing development of the RIAS integration playbook, capturing learnings from each deal

What we're looking for

  • Minimum of ten years' experience in financial services, wealth management, or a client-facing acquisitions role
  • Demonstrable experience managing relationships with retiring or senior professionals, ideally in a financial advisory or professional services context
  • Sound understanding of the IFA market: the motivations of retiring advisers, the regulatory environment, and the sensitivities involved in client book transitions
  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple concurrent transactions without losing the personal touch
  • Excellent interpersonal skills: empathy, discretion, and the ability to build genuine trust are essential
  • Commercial awareness and the ability to assess the risk and suitability of acquisition opportunities
  • A relevant financial services qualification is desirable; professional qualifications such as CFA or Diploma in Financial Planning would be an advantage

The right person

You will have built your career in financial services and understand the IFA market from the inside: what matters to retiring advisers, what concerns them, and what a successful outcome looks like for them and their clients. You will be equally comfortable handling sensitive one-to-one conversations and presenting integration progress to senior leaders.

This is a rare opportunity to play a defining role in how Mattioli Woods grows - building trusted relationships that last, and making sure every acquisition delivers on its promise.

If that sounds like the role you have been looking for, we would love to hear from you.
