Job Summary

The Intelligence Division is the driving force behind the identification and development of new cases for the SFO. Working in partnership with wider law enforcement agencies and intelligence communities, the SFO is focused on tackling the most serious and complex cases of fraud, bribery and corruption with a UK nexus. With plans to increase the scope of the Intelligence Division, the SFO seeks to be more proactive in case identification and innovative in its tactics to tackle serious and organised crime.

As an Intelligence Officer, you will work as part of a team collecting, evaluating, analysing, assessing and disseminating information and criminal intelligence from a variety of sources. The role includes undertaking the early stages of investigation to establish if there is any clear evidence of criminality. You may be tasked by investigative case teams in any of our core business domains or work on any number of strategic projects for the Executive Board.

The Intelligence Officer will be required to build and maintain relationships with individuals and organisations who can assist the SFO by providing information of relevance to ongoing or developing investigations, and the prosecution of SFO casework. All activities will be carried out within a defined legal and procedural framework.

Good communication skills and the ability to retain and record information accurately are essential, as you will be required to write reports as well as occasionally giving verbal briefings to senior colleagues. An analytical mind-set is also essential in order to piece together separate pieces of information for the development of intelligence projects.

Job Description

As an Intelligence Officer, you will be responsible for:

  • Undertake early stages of investigation to establish whether there is sufficient information to suspect that crime has occurred.
  • Compile accurate and comprehensive intelligence and investigative assessments, for consideration by the Deputy Chief Intelligence Officer, clearly identifying potential suspects and criminality, in alignment with the Director’s Statement of Principle.
  • Develop strong working relationships with internal and external customers to understand their intelligence requirements.
  • Deliver intelligence products and desk-level briefings to other members of the Intelligence Division, operational case teams and the SFO senior leadership team.
  • Liaise and collaborate with cross-sector stakeholders, including other government agencies and relevant Police Forces, to drive the collection of information to further enhance the intelligence picture.
  • Requirement to undertake personal professional development, including completion of the Intelligence Professionalisation Programme (IPP) if not already held.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
