Job Summary
Staff Nurse - Band 5 - Critical Care Unit

Come and join our progressive, innovative critical care team and benefit from working in a modern critical care unit. We are a busy 12 bedded critical care dealing with a wide variety of patients. As a team we are committed to delivering first class care to our patients and on-going professional development of our staff.
We are currently seeking to recruit enthusiastic and motivated staff to join our proactive team. To apply you will need post registration experience in an acute care setting. Previous CCU experience is desirable but not essential as full training in managing critically ill and high dependency patients will be given.
Main duties of the job
Clinical Care
-
Deliver and coordinate high standards of nursing care using a patient-centered approach

Undertake comprehensive patient assessment, care planning, implementation and evaluation

Monitor, interpret and respond to complex clinical data, escalating deterioration appropriately

Safely administer and titrate medications, including complex IV infusions
-
Develop skills in managing critically ill patients including:
- Mechanical ventilation and respiratory support
- Advanced haemodynamic monitoring
- Renal replacement therapy (e.g. haemofiltration)
- Use of specialist critical care equipment

Participate in emergency response and resuscitation within the hospital

Support safe transfer of critically ill patients within and between hospitals

Maintain accurate, timely documentation in accordance with NMC and Trust standards

Job responsibilities
To deliver high-quality, evidence-based nursing care to critically ill (Level 1-3) patients within the Critical Care Unit. The post holder will assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care, working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to ensure safe, effective, and patient-centered care.

Clinical Care

- Complete Critical Care competencies and national programmes (e.g. STEPS)
- Participate in ongoing professional development, appraisal, one to ones, and revalidation
- Support and mentor junior staff, students and new starters
- Contribute to teaching, supervision and maintaining a learning environment

- Adhere to Trust policies, procedures and professional standards
- Participate in audit, research and quality improvement activity

Qualifications
Qualifications Essential
- Nursing Diploma / Degree.
- First Level registration.
- Basic Life Support.
- IV Medicine Administration
- Evidence of portfolio development
Desirable
- ALS.
- Mentors & Assessors course.
- Paediatric BLS
- ALERT/REACT course
- Preceptorship programme
Experience Essential
- Experience of working within a Multi disciplinary team.
- Ability to effectively organising own work load.
- Ability to prioritise clinical care needs
- Ability to assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care
- Current experience of nursing patients in an acute hospital setting
- Experience and competency in IV medicine administration
Desirable
- Experience of working in ICU/HDU
- Competency in management of:
- Arterial Lines
- Central Venous Catheters
- Tracheostomy
