As part of Treasury & Trading Operations, the Interbank Settlements Team is comprised of four people who are responsible for the settlement of FX and Money Market Trades for our Interbank counterparties. In addition, working closely with the Central Treasury Desk, the team are responsible for managing the banks Intraday Liquidity.

Description Of Role And Key Responsibilities

The scope of the role is wide and requires the Interbank Settlements Junior Analyst to have a working knowledge across a wide range of products. The successful individual can deliver exceptional work within a Team and as an Individual.

The day-to-day responsibilities of the team:

  • Completion of Interbank day-to-day workflows and processes
  • Payment input and authorisation, ensuring exceptions are processed in the correct manner
  • Proactive monitoring and management of bank account balances and cash flow movements to ensure that the business operates within agreed intra-day tolerances
  • Monitoring, resolution and sign-off of all reconciliation breaks relating to the Interbank Settlements Team
  • CLS Matching - ensure that all CLS eligible trades are matched, monitoring CLS positions throughout the day, and agreeing netted payments at close of business
  • Monitoring of incoming/outgoing Swift confirmations - MT300, 320 and 600
  • Ensuring all payments/receipts for Internal Stakeholders are settled in the internal systems, including external Nostro funding movements
  • Agreeing and settling FX netting values with other Investec entities/ bi-lateral counterparties
  • Daily review and sign-off of relevant Control reports
  • Generation of reports in relation to Intra-day liquidity Management, which include the PRA reporting and internal reporting to senior stakeholders
  • Ensuring sound processes and procedures are diligently followed and are kept in line with changes and developments within Market Practice and Regulations

Some of the key functional responsibilities of the role are as follows:

  • Overview of the day-to-day BAU ensuring all tasks is completed for the day
  • Reporting to Interbank Settlements Team Leader, attending meetings and representing the Interbank Settlements Team
  • Partnering with the Front Office desks to ensure the function is providing the right support for the Business
  • Provide input and assist with automation of current manual processes to increase scalability
  • Implement a culture of high-performance standards

Core skills and knowledge:

  • Attitude: Self-starter, energetic and enthusiastic, with a proactive approach to learning and development
  • To always act with integrity and embrace the philosophy of treating our customers fairly (compulsory)
  • Technical, Market and Product Knowledge: Basic awareness of the market landscape and a willingness to learn how the business functions. Developing technical understanding of the processes supported within the Corporate Settlements Team, with guidance from senior colleagues
  • Delivery and Change Management: Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and changing environment, supporting the team in delivering tasks and adapting to new ways of working
  • Relationship Management and Communication: Good interpersonal skills, with the ability to build working relationships and communicate clearly with team members and key interfaces under supervision
  • Risk Understanding: Awareness of basic risk concepts and the ability to identify and escalate potential issues to senior colleagues for assessment and mitigation
  • Continuous Improvement: Open to change and keen to contribute ideas that support continuous improvement within the team
  • Regulatory Knowledge as applicable to role (compulsory) - willingness to learn and apply relevant regulatory requirements with appropriate training and support
  • Accurate, organised, proactive, confident, diligent, good communication skills, change focused
