Intercompany Supply Chain Buyer Planner
Procurement Buyer – Life Sciences & Inventory Management (On-site, Abingdon)
Pay Range: £25,800 - £42,450 (depending on experience, qualifications, and location)
Reports To: Supply Chain Manager, EMEA Location: Abingdon (on-site) Hours: 37.5 hours per week
About the Role
Bio-Techne empowers researchers to advance Life Sciences and Clinical Diagnostics through innovative tools that enable disease treatment and prevention. By joining our team, you’ll play a crucial role in optimising inventory across Europe to support our global manufacturing sites while ensuring customer satisfaction and operational excellence.
This position offers the opportunity to:
- Source stock from Bio-Techne’s internal brands and manage European inventory efficiently.
- Serve as a key link between suppliers, operations, and customers to reduce lead times and minimise backorders.
- Drive continuous improvement in procurement, quality, and delivery processes.
Responsibilities
Procurement & Supplier Management
- Identify and evaluate potential suppliers, researching capabilities, pricing, and materials availability.
- Prepare statements of work (SOWs), requests for quotation (RFQs)/proposals, and bidder lists.
- Conduct supplier site visits and assess performance across technical, quality, delivery, and cost criteria.
- Negotiate and finalise terms of purchase orders (POs) and contracts, including agreements with international suppliers.
- Mitigate risks by developing alternative supply sources where necessary.
Inventory & Operations Support
- Maintain accurate lead times and monitor supplier performance to ensure timely deliveries.
- Investigate and resolve shipment quality discrepancies, prioritising quick reconciliations.
- Facilitate inspections, substitutions, and standardisation by coordinating between suppliers and internal teams.
- Handle damage claims, returns, over-shipments, and product changes with suppliers.

Process Improvement & Reporting
- Prepare complex reports and analytics, tracking inventory trends and KPIs.
- Apply continuous improvement methodologies to optimise procurement workflows.
- Lead or contribute to special projects, improving processes with suppliers and cross-functional teams.
- Stay updated on industry regulations and internal policies (e.g., Government/Commercial Practices Manual (GPM/CPM)).
Leadership & Training
- Provide mentorship to less experienced colleagues and act as a stakeholder liaison on critical projects.
- Establish departmental goals and ensure project objectives are met within deadlines.
- Train new hires on procurement systems and procedures.
Requirements
Essential Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) preferred.
- First working experience in a Buyer/Planner role required.
- Proven data entry accuracy and speed.
- Strong analytical thinking and communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Access preferred).
- Beneficial: Experience with Dynamics 365 or ERP systems.
- Beneficial: Background in supply chain or procurement functions.
- Fluent English (second language a plus, but not mandatory).
- Demonstrable experience in Life Sciences, manufacturing, or technical procurement.
- Ability to manage custom and specialised component supply chains, including low-to-mid volume production.
- Strong customer-facing skills with experience in training, support, and conflict resolution.
- Must travel occasionally across EMEA (Europe, Middle East, Africa) for supplier meetings.
