Job Summary

The Interim Director of the Arts & Crafts Program leads a dynamic, student-centered creative hub in Student Life, empowering students to explore and engage with art and craft processes. Aligned with institutional priorities, this role shapes the program’s vision and fosters campus-wide collaboration across departments such as Admissions, Wellness, Human Resources, and New Student Orientation.

Combining leadership, teaching, and mentorship, this position supports an inclusive and accessible studio environment that promotes students’ holistic development, well-being, and career readiness through contemporary craft.

Note: This is an interim appointment with a two-year duration.


Responsibilities

Program Development and Teaching

  • Develops, manages, and facilitates core arts and crafts programming, including:
    • Co-curricular classes and workshops
    • Student Independent Projects
    • Fiber Fellowship Program
    • Visiting Artist Workshops
    • Staff & Faculty Art & Wellness Programs
    • CC Fashion Show
  • Teaches craft-based classes and workshops accessible to varied skill levels, fostering creative skill-building and self-expression.

Student Staff Supervision and Development

  • Supervises and mentors arts and crafts student staff, including:
    • Conducting scheduled programmatic meetings
    • Managing work schedules and training
    • Supporting career readiness skill development

Campus Partnerships and Program Advocacy

  • Builds collaborative relationships across campus, serving as a liaison by partnering with:
    • Fine Arts Center
    • Art & Art History Department
    • CC Press
    • Creativity & Innovation
    • The Butler Center
    • Library
  • Advocates for arts programming within Student Life leadership and broader campus initiatives.

Budget and Financial Management

  • Oversees program budget and financial operations, including:
    • Processing artist payments and contracts
    • Managing student account charges
    • Completing P-Card reconciliation

Studio Operations and Program Support

  • Maintains core studio spaces, including:
    • Ceramics studio (firing student work)
    • Fibers Studio
    • Stained-Glass Studio
    • Print Studio (screen-printing)
    • Ensures proper equipment maintenance and supply inventory
  • Provides occasional staffing support for evening/weekend Student Life, student organization, and campus activities.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field
  • 3 years of experience in a relevant field

Note: One year of experience may substitute for one year of education, or vice versa.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in the Arts, Education, or related field
  • Higher education experience in managing and teaching students
  • Technical experience maintaining multi-use studio equipment or shop technician skills
    • Kiln operation experience
    • Safety expertise in glass or dye processes

Anticipated Salary

$56,958 – $68,349 per year
