Job Opportunity – Interim Closedown Support Accountant – Local Authority
A local authority client of mine are currently on the lookout for a Closedown Support Accountant with previous specific local authority to join their team to help them through audit.
Job Role: Interim Closedown Support Accountant
Contract Duration: 4 Months +
Rate: DOE
Hybrid: X1 day in office per week to begin with, overtime this can reduce down to X1 day in office per fortnight.
Days: 5 days per week (can also consider part time work).
Start Date: ASAP
Main duties:
- Provide general finance support throughout the year-end closedown process
- Assist with the preparation of statutory accounts and supporting working papers
- Respond to and resolve external audit queries
- Support the reconciliation and maintenance of the Council's Fixed Asset Register (FAR)
- Undertake fixed asset administration and reconciliation work using Excel-based records and GIS systems
- Review and reconcile financial data to ensure accuracy and completeness
- Produce clear audit trails and supporting documentation for year-end reporting
- Work collaboratively with the wider finance team to meet closedown deadlines
- Identify and resolve accounting discrepancies and reconciliation issues

- Must have previous experience supporting year end closedown within a UK Local Authority before.
- Must have experience dealing directly with external auditors and audit queries
- Do not necessarily need to be a fully qualified accountant as the client is also happy considering candidates who are part qualified and qualified by experience.
