Overview
We are seeking an experienced and hands-on Deputy Money Laundering Reporting Officer (Deputy MLRO) to join a growing Wealth Management business on a 12-month fixed-term basis. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Financial Crime professional to take ownership of the organisation's Anti-Money Laundering (AML) and Financial Crime framework, driving significant enhancements across the business.
The successful candidate will have the autonomy to assess the existing framework, strengthen Financial Crime controls, implement sustainable improvements, and make a lasting impact within a regulated financial services environment. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys building robust frameworks, driving change, and embedding best practice.
Key Responsibilities
You will be responsible for:
- Leading the review and enhancement of the organisation's AML and Financial Crime framework.
- Conducting a comprehensive review of external compliance recommendations, prioritising and delivering remediation activities.
- Taking ownership of the Financial Crime programme, ensuring regulatory obligations are met and best practice is embedded throughout the business.
- Reviewing, redesigning and implementing AML, Customer Due Diligence (CDD), Enhanced Due Diligence (EDD), and Financial Crime policies, procedures and controls.
- Developing and implementing a robust client risk-rating methodology.
- Establishing and embedding Enhanced Due Diligence processes for higher-risk clients and relationships.
- Enhancing customer onboarding and ongoing monitoring controls, including identity verification requirements.
- Conducting Financial Crime risk assessments and recommending appropriate mitigating controls.
- Working collaboratively with Compliance, Operations and client-facing teams to strengthen processes and controls.
- Delivering AML and Financial Crime training across the business to improve awareness and regulatory compliance.
- Providing ongoing guidance and support to colleagues on AML, Financial Crime and regulatory matters.

Skills and Experience
We're looking for an individual who can quickly assess existing processes, develop practical solutions, and drive implementation. You will have:
- A minimum of five years' experience in a Deputy MLRO, Financial Crime Manager or AML Manager role within financial services.
- Proven experience designing, implementing or enhancing AML and Financial Crime frameworks.
- Strong understanding of:
- Customer Due Diligence (CDD)
- Enhanced Due Diligence (EDD)
- Client Risk Assessments and Risk Rating Methodologies
- Ongoing Monitoring
- Financial Crime Risk Management
- UK AML regulations and regulatory expectations
- Strong knowledge of Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) rules and regulations, including the FCA Handbook, Senior Managers & Certification Regime (SM&CR), Consumer Duty, and discretionary investment management/platform requirements.
- AML-related professional qualification such as ICA, ACAMS or equivalent (preferred).
- Excellent stakeholder management and influencing skills.
- Ability to challenge constructively and drive positive change.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Experience writing policies, procedures and regulatory documentation.
- Excellent communication and training delivery skills.
- A proactive, pragmatic and hands-on approach.

Working Arrangements
This role offers a hybrid working model with a preference for candidates who can attend one of the organisation's offices in Bath, Whiteley or London approximately three days per week, with the remainder worked remotely. Flexible working arrangements will be considered where possible.
