A highly regarded professional services business is seeking an experienced and qualified finance professional to join the team on a 12-month fixed-term contract, covering a period of maternity leave. This is a broad and visible role that combines financial accounting, management reporting, statutory accounting, audit coordination and commercial analysis. You'll take ownership of the monthly reporting cycle while supporting senior stakeholders with insightful financial information that drives decision-making across the firm. - Leading the month-end close process and delivering accurate, insightful management accounts for senior leadership.
- Producing financial analysis and performance reporting, highlighting trends, risks and opportunities across the business.
- Ensuring the integrity of the balance sheet through robust reconciliations and effective financial controls.
- Supporting the preparation of annual statutory accounts and acting as a key finance contact throughout the external audit process.
- Working closely with budget holders to understand expenditure trends and provide meaningful cost analysis.
- Assisting with budgeting, forecasting and longer-term financial planning activities.
- Reviewing working capital metrics, provisions and other key financial indicators to support effective cash and performance management.
- Supporting VAT compliance and wider financial governance requirements.
- Partnering with senior stakeholders to provide financial insight around profitability, business performance and strategic initiatives.
- Contributing to ongoing process improvement projects and helping strengthen the firm's finance function.
- Providing technical accounting support, including the assessment of new accounting standards and reporting requirements.
- Supporting the Finance Director with a range of commercial and operational finance projects.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
