Interim Financial Controller

Interim Property Financial Accountant – Reading

Daily Rate: £400–£500 p/day (DOE) | Job Type: Interim


About the Role

We are seeking a commercially minded, experienced Property Financial Controller to join a well-established property business in Reading. This business-critical interim role offers the opportunity to:

The Role Responsibilities

As Interim Property Financial Controller, you will take ownership of the finance function, ensuring:

  • Financial control across a diverse property portfolio.
  • Accurate monthly management accounts, balance sheet reconciliations, and reporting.
  • Compliance with statutory requirements and internal controls.
  • Budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow reporting.
  • Service charge accounting and property finance oversight (where applicable).

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading the day-to-day financial operations across the property portfolio.
  • Preparing monthly management accounts, reconciliations, and financial reporting.
  • Ensuring compliance with statutory, regulatory, and internal controls.
  • Managing budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow projections.
  • Supporting property finance (e.g., service charges, loan accounting).
  • Partnering with operational teams to deliver commercial financial insights.
  • Assisting with year-end audits and statutory accounts preparation.
  • Identifying and implementing finance process improvements.
  • Mentoring and supporting the finance team.
  • Contributing to ongoing projects, system upgrades, and business transformation.

About You – Key Requirements

We’re looking for a finance leader who can add value quickly and excel in an interim role. Ideal candidates will have:

  • A qualified ACA, ACCA, or CIMA (or equivalent professional accreditation).
  • Proven experience as a Financial Controller in property, real estate, or a similar sector.
  • Strong understanding of property accounting, including service charge structures.
  • Expertise in financial reporting, statutory compliance, and financial controls.
  • Advanced Excel skills and experience with finance systems (e.g., MRI, Yardi, SAP, Oracle).
  • A proactive, hands-on approach with excellent stakeholder management.
  • Self-direction – the ability to hit the ground running in a fast-paced interim format.
