Interim Financial Controller
Interim Financial Controller
Location: London (Hybrid) – 6 months + contract Rate: £500 - £550 p/day outside IR35
We are partnering with a scaling business to appoint a hands-on Interim Financial Controller for an initial 6-month contract, with strong potential to transition to a permanent position. This is a pivotal finance leadership role within a lean team, reporting directly to the VP: Finance.
Ideal Candidate: Candidates should have:
- A proven track record of building finance functions from the ground up
- Relevant experience in finance leadership in start-up or scaling environments
- A proactive, adaptable, and technically astute approach
Key Responsibilities
Financial Close & Reporting
- Lead month-end, quarter-end, and year-end financial close processes, ensuring timely and accurate reporting
- Oversee management accounts, statutory reporting, and the integrity of financial records

Controls & Strategy
- Develop and maintain robust financial controls, governance frameworks, and balance sheet reconciliations
- Drive ERP optimisation, finance systems improvements, and automation of reporting processes
Team Leadership & Stakeholder Engagement
- Manage, mentor, and grow the finance team, establishing clear accountability structures
- Partner with senior stakeholders to support business growth, financial governance, and finance transformation initiatives
Cash Flow & Project Oversight
- Oversee cash flow forecasting, liquidity management, working capital performance, and payment controls
- Provide financial oversight of capital expenditure projects, including investment appraisal and project reporting
Regulatory & Audit Compliance
- Ensure accurate accounting treatment and capitalisation of project-related costs
- Manage external audits, tax adviser relationships, and regulatory compliance requirements

Skills & Qualifications
- Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent)
- Strong background in:
- Financial accounting and reporting
- Experience in lean, fast-paced, or scaling environments
- Technical proficiencies:
- Strong attention to detail
- Ability to deliver under tight deadlines
- Soft skills:
- Proactive, self-starter mindset with a "roll-up-your-sleeves" attitude
- Excellent communication skills with senior leadership
