Interim Global Customs Specialist

Global Customs Specialist (Interim – Inside IR35)

A leading global industrial distribution business is seeking a senior Interim Global Customs Specialist to bolster its international trade compliance framework and contribute to shaping its future customs strategy.

This impactful contract role is ideal for someone looking to drive meaningful transformation within a complex, multi-regional organisation. The organisation is evolving its trading model to comply with new EU regulations while implementing a SAP S/4HANA system.

About the Role

  • Assess and enhance the global customs compliance framework, policies, and controls.
  • Review and optimise import/export processes and customs procedures globally.
  • Evaluate the customs broker and logistics provider ecosystem, providing data-driven recommendations.
  • Monitor regulatory changes (UK/EU, US, APAC) and guide stakeholders on compliance risks and opportunities.
  • Develop strategic insights on the future customs landscape, including Authorised Economic Operator (AEO) qualifications and Central Customs Clearance.
  • Collaborate with Global Process Owners to shape SAP S/4HANA’s customs framework, with a focus on SAP Global Trade Services (GTS).

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience in global trade and customs compliance, with a senior-level track record.
  • Proven expertise in cross-border compliance programs, spanning multiple regions.
  • Experience with customs solutions in an SAP environment, with SAP S/4HANA and SAP GTS being highly beneficial.
  • Ability to engage and influence stakeholders—from operational teams to regulatory authorities.
  • Strong strategic mindset, capable of simplifying complex customs challenges into clear, actionable strategies.
