Interim Head of Legal

My client is a leading organisation operating within a complex and highly regulated environment. They are currently seeking an experienced Interim Head of Legal to be their Sole In-House Legal Counsel to join for a 3-6 month interim basis.

Acting as sole in-house legal counsel, you will provide strategic legal support across commercial contracts, corporate governance, company secretarial matters, disputes, litigation, and legal risk management.

As Interim Head of Legal, you will be the trusted legal adviser to the business, supporting key stakeholders on a wide range of operational and strategic matters. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced lawyer who is comfortable operating autonomously and providing pragmatic legal advice in a fast-paced commercial environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide expert legal advice on a broad range of commercial, corporate, regulatory, and contractual matters.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate a variety of commercial agreements, including customer, supplier, procurement, and service contracts.
  • Lead on company secretarial and corporate governance matters, ensuring compliance with statutory obligations and internal governance requirements.
  • Advise senior stakeholders on legal risk and support the implementation of effective risk management processes.
  • Manage disputes, litigation, and contentious matters, working closely with external counsel where required.
  • Support strategic business projects, acquisitions, restructurings, and other corporate initiatives.
  • Develop and improve legal templates, policies, and processes to support the wider business.
  • Build strong relationships across the organisation, providing practical and commercially focused legal guidance.

About you

  • Solicitor in England & Wales with 7+ years' PQE.
  • Strong background in corporate and commercial law.
  • Experience drafting and negotiating complex commercial contracts.
  • Knowledge of company secretarial and corporate governance matters.
  • Experience managing disputes and litigation.
  • Excellent drafting, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to provide clear, pragmatic, and commercially focused legal advice.
  • Previous in-house experience and/or experience operating in a standalone legal role would be advantageous.
