Reporting into the senior leadership team, you will lead a large, high performing triage function, ensuring operational excellence whilst supporting the implementation of a major transformation programme. This is a highly visible leadership role requiring extensive experience within fitness to practise, investigations, regulatory casework or a comparable statutory environment.
A key focus of the role will be strengthening the management structure, developing operational leaders and ensuring the consistent delivery of high quality, legally robust and evidence based decision making. You will balance day to day operational leadership with continuous improvement, enabling the wider leadership team to deliver strategic change without compromising service performance.
Key Responsibilities

- Lead, support and develop Operational Managers and Team Leaders, building management capability and embedding a culture of accountability, continuous improvement and high performance.
- Ensure operational decisions are evidence based, legally robust and consistent with relevant legislation, policy and regulatory requirements.
- Analyse operational performance, workforce data and management information to identify trends, address service issues and deliver sustainable improvements.
- Lead the implementation of operational improvements and new ways of working whilst maintaining service continuity and operational resilience.
- Identify, manage and escalate operational and regulatory risks, ensuring appropriate mitigation and maintaining public protection.
- Work closely with Legal, Policy and other internal stakeholders to resolve complex operational issues and ensure the consistent application of legislation and regulatory practice.
- Prepare and present operational performance reports, workforce insights and risk information to senior leaders, supporting informed decision making.
- Promote an inclusive culture, championing equality, diversity and inclusion whilst modelling effective leadership and organisational values.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
