Interim HR Business Partner – Commercial

Fixed-term (c. 8–9 months) 📍 Full-time or part-time | On Site, EH52 5LY, West Lothian (hybrid working may be considered)

Here in Ian Macleod Distillers, we value straight talking, trust, and focus—and we’re looking for an experienced HR Business Partner to join us on an interim basis.

The right candidate will step into a role where practical delivery, executive-level judgement, and immediate impact are essential as [ noi👉 colleague supports a key internal project. This is a hands-on position with clear commercial focus, ensuring people initiatives are embedded efficiently across commercial teams, while driving change, operational optimisation, and cost discipline.


What You’ll Be Doing

  • Driving and embedding people initiatives, ensuring practical, effective rollout
  • Partnering with commercial leaders to support change and organisational effectiveness
  • Shaping evolving ways of working, helping teams adapt sustainably
  • Providing pragmatic HR advice—flexing approaches when needed, not defaulting to rigid processes
  • Leading workforce planning, recruitment, and resourcing with a commercial and cost-conscious lens
  • Acting as a trusted employee relations advisor, coaching managers to handle challenges proportionately
  • Using data and insights to inform impactful decisions while keeping pace and momentum
  • Cutting through complexity to ensure timely, efficient delivery

✔ Proven HR Business Partner experience—ideally in a commercial/operational environment (not entry-level, but equally not a purely strategic senior role; we need a hands-on, judgement-driven practitioner with accountabilities).

✔ Expertise in employee relations & change management—strong capability in driving transitions successfully.

✔ Commercial mindset—with sharp awareness of cost, value, and business impact.

✔ Influence without hierarchy—ability to build credibility quickly and engage senior leaders effectively.

✔ A pragmatic, accountability-driven approach—deliver-focused, proactive, and unafraid to take responsibility when needed.
