Job Role: Interim Project Engineer Manager (Outside IR35)
Job Location: Reading Area, Berkshire, with occasional UK travel
Rate: Target £500–£600 per day + reasonable expenses DOE apply with your expectations
Contract: Interim Assignment (Outside IR35)
Duration: Initial 3 months
Start: Available at short notice, ideally within 2 weeks

We are supporting a market-leading multi-site PLC manufacturing organisation seeking an experienced Interim Project Engineer - Manager to take ownership of a portfolio of critical engineering and capital improvement projects during a key delivery period, post-shutdown. The role requires an individual who can mobilise quickly, provide technical and project leadership, and ensure projects are delivered safely, on time, and within budget.
Assignment guidelines - Interim Project Engineer Manager (Outside IR35)
Working across a key building materials operational manufacturing site, you will lead multiple engineering workstreams including shutdown activities, equipment installations, automation projects, contractor management, FEED development, and future capital investment programmes. The successful contractor will lead projects, drive delivery, and establish robust plans for subsequent engineering investment activities. The successful contractor will operate as an independent specialist focused on delivering agreed project outcomes. This assignment is outcome-focused and suited to a contractor accustomed to delivering engineering projects with a high degree of autonomy and professional judgement. You will have no direct reports.

Key Responsibilities - Interim Project Engineer Manager (Outside IR35)
- Lead engineering projects from mobilisation through to commissioning and handover.
- Manage project plans, budgets, risks and stakeholder engagement.
- Coordinate internal engineering teams, suppliers and contractors.
- Drive FEED activity and development of future capital projects.
- Ensure compliance with engineering, safety and regulatory standards.
- Provide regular project reporting and governance updates.
- Support commissioning, validation and operational handover activities.
Your profile - Interim Project Engineer Manager (Outside IR35)
We are interested in speaking with contractors who can demonstrate:
- Extensive project engineering or engineering management experience.
- Previous experience delivering interim project assignments through a Limited Company consultancy model.
- Ability to take ownership of project outcomes and work with a high degree of autonomy.
- Strong background within manufacturing, industrial, FMCG, heavy industry or process environments.
- Proven success delivering CAPEX and engineering improvement projects.
- Experience managing contractors, suppliers and multidisciplinary teams.
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
- HNC/HND or Degree-qualified Engineer (or equivalent experience).
