About the Role
Safeguarding is central to our mission as regulators of 850,000+ nursing and midwifery professionals across the UK. Our Safeguarding Hub ensures that:
- Vulnerable adults, children, and young people are protected.
- Risks are identified, assessed, and managed.
- Safeguarding is embedded across organisational operations.
This is a highly visible, impactful role, where your work will influence:
- Strategic decision-making at senior levels.
- Support for colleagues in complex safeguarding scenarios.
- Shaping safeguarding standards across the NMC.
Your Role & Impact
As Senior Safeguarding Manager, you will lead the operational delivery of safeguarding, ensuring: ✅ Safeguarding is integrated into policy, culture, and decision-making. ✅ Expert guidance on high-risk, complex safeguarding cases. ✅ Strategic leadership in reducing organisational risk.
Key Responsibilities:
- Command the Safeguarding Hub, ensuring cases are resolved efficiently and risks managed proactively.
- Collaborate with teams across Fitness to Practise, Legal Services, Public Support, and other functions.
- Provide critical advice for vulnerable individuals, balancing legal obligations and public protection.
- Drive continuous improvement—analysing trends, improving processes, and embedding organisational learning.

You will also: ✔ Deputise for the Head of Safeguarding as needed. ✔ Represent the NMC at internal/external safeguarding forums.
What You’ll Bring
Essential Experience & Skills
You are an experienced safeguarding leader with: ✅ Advanced expertise in high-risk safeguarding (health, social care, or regulatory contexts). ✅ In-depth knowledge of safeguarding legislation, multi-agency working, and organisational safeguarding frameworks. ✅ Proven track record in handling sensitive, high-profile cases—balancing evidence, risk, and stakeholder needs. ✅ Strong strategic and analytical skills—identifying patterns, mitigating risks, and informing system-wide improvements. ✅ Resilience and professional courage—challenging poor practice and prioritising public protection in difficult scenarios.

Additional Information
- This role is flexible, adapting to workload needs across teams (governed by case urgency, not fixed location).
