Sheridan Group Limited - Assistant Quantity Surveyor
Approximately 2–5 years’ experience
Sheridan Group is looking to appoint an Assistant Quantity Surveyor to support our growing commercial and operational teams. This is a varied, hands-on role offering exposure across the Group’s construction, demolition, strip-out, scaffolding, concrete, facilities management and associated specialist services, working as both Main Contractor and Subcontractor.
We are looking for someone commercially aware, organised and confident dealing with clients and subcontractors. The successful candidate will work alongside senior management and will be encouraged to take increasing responsibility for their own projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with the commercial management of projects from initial enquiry through to final account.
- Prepare estimates, budgets, quotations and tender submissions.
- Review drawings, specifications, schedules of work and contract information.
- Produce project cost reports, forecasts, cashflow information and monthly commercial updates.
- Monitor project costs, committed expenditure, labour, plant, materials and subcontract accounts.
- Identify and report commercial risks, opportunities and potential cost movements.
- Prepare and submit interim applications, valuations, variations and supporting records.
- Maintain accurate change-control and variation registers.
- Assist with the preparation, negotiation and agreement of final accounts.
- Procure subcontractors and suppliers, including obtaining and comparing quotations.
- Prepare subcontract orders, appointments, scopes of work and commercial documentation.
- Manage subcontractor applications, payments, variations and final accounts.
- Attend client, subcontractor, site and internal commercial meetings.
- Build positive working relationships with clients, consultants, subcontractors and the wider supply chain.
- Support operational teams to ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently and profitably.
- Maintain accurate commercial records, contracts and project documentation.

Experience and Skills
- Approximately 2–5 years’ experience in quantity surveying or commercial construction.
- A relevant qualification in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management or a related construction discipline.
- A practical understanding of construction costs, procurement and subcontract management.
- Experience preparing valuations, variations, cost reports and subcontract documentation.
- Strong numerical, communication and organisational skills.
- A practical, commercially minded and solutions-focused approach.
- Confidence communicating with clients, subcontractors, site teams and senior management.
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and standard commercial reporting systems.
- Ability to manage multiple projects, deadlines and changing priorities.
- A full UK driving licence.
