Intermediate Electrical Design Engineer
An exciting opportunity for an Intermediate Electrical Design Engineer to join our electrical design team.
This role is ideally suited to a career-minded, ambitious individual looking for the chance to develop and grow, working alongside senior electrical engineers and designers while eventually leading their own projects. The work primarily involves building services, including occasional process works depending on the project.
Role Overview
Location
Our BES Rochdale office hosts this position. We collaborate with world-leading organisations across pharmaceutical, biotech, life sciences, healthcare, and hi-tech industries to design and construct cutting-edge cleanrooms, laboratories, and sophisticated facilities critical for medical research, development, and manufacturing.
Our expertise spans consultancy, design, construction, commissioning, and validation, delivering turnkey projects throughout the UK. Our specialisms include:
- Building services and life sciences systems:
- LV distribution, small & mechanical power
- UPS, earthing
- Lighting & emergency lighting
- Access control, CCTV, security
- Voice & data communications
- Fire detection, VESDA, alarms
- Solar PV, renewables & facilities monitoring
- Process works (as required by project scope):
- Controls & instrumentation (ATEX awareness applied where relevant)
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and refine clear project scope documents and technical schedules at every stage.
- Design low-voltage (LV) distribution schemes using ElectricalOM and Trimble ProDesign.
- Design lighting and emergency lighting layouts via Relux and DIALux.
- Produce LV diagrams, earthing, and schematic designs in AutoCAD.
- Use Revit MEP to coordinate and combine small power, mechanical power, earthing, lighting, access control, CCTV, security, voice & data, fire detection, VESDA, solar PV, renewables, and facilities monitoring systems.
- Ensure all designs meet quality standards, are coordinated, and ready for delivery.

All project workflows and collaboration are encouraged using Autodesk Forma (previously Autodesk Construction Cloud) for streamlined organisation.
Requirements
Successful candidates will typically meet the following criteria:
- Electrical qualification:
- A Level 4 vocational qualification in electrical engineering.
- Formal compliance knowledge:
- Current awareness and application of BS7671:2018+A4:2026.
- Practical experience:
- Minimum of two years in electrical building services design.
- Licensing and certifications:
- A full UK driving licence.
- Technical competency:
- UPS, solar PV, renewables, and ATEX awareness working knowledge.
- Software proficiency:
- Microsoft 365, Relux, DIALux, ElectricalOM, Trimble ProDesign, AutoCAD, and Revit.
