Intermediate Estimator – Northampton Office
Full-Time Role – Quantity Surveying & Estimating Firm
We are one of the UK’s leading quantity surveying and estimating firms, seeking a driven and motivated full-time Estimator to join our Northampton office. Part of a fast-growing and innovative team, you’ll contribute to our continued success through accurate cost forecasts and strategic estimations.
About the Role
The modern estimator role combines construction knowledge, technical precision, and commercial acumen to support residential and commercial projects. My Build Estimate offers ambitious professionals the opportunity to grow alongside a dynamic office, known for:

You’ll work closely with clients (contractors, developers, private clients, subcontractors) to deliver:
- Takeoffs (scheduling and cost breakdowns)
- Bills of quantities and tendermaking
- SMM7/NRM3 compliance
- JCT contract familiarity
The position spans both digital and traditional filing, ensuring tender documents are timely, accurate, and competitive.
Key Responsibilities
Estimating & Documentation
- Set up and manage electronic and paper-based estimating files, including follow-up queries and amendments.
- Maintain archived records of past tenders and cost analyses.
- Chase supplier, subcontractor, and manufacturer quotes to collate competitive pricing data.

Client & Supplier Liaison
- Interface with contractors, developers, subcontractors, and private clients at all tender stages:
- Initial enquiries
- Price negotiations
- Contract award documentation
- Establish strong supplier relationships to secure fair pricing.
Operational Support
- Field incoming calls, coordinate messages, and redirect as necessary.
- Collaborate proactively with the accounts team during peak periods (e.g., storm season, expansion projects).
Strategic Contributions
- Assist in cost-planning and feasibility profiling for new projects.
- Apply technical knowledge to improve portfolio-wide accuracy.
Person Specification
Technical & Industry Skills
- Experience: Residential/light-commercial project estimating, with proficiency in takeoffs and cost summaries.
- Measurement Methods: SMM7 (Standard Method of Measurement) familiarity, along with NRM3 adaptability.
- Contract Knowledge: Hands-on understanding of JCT (Joint Contracts Tribunal) contracts and tender processes.
- Software: Proficiency in:
- Excel/Microsoft Office
- Other estimating software (e.g., Monarch, Savvy, QuickMoney)
