Based in Chorley, our Equipment & Ancillaries team provides a truly global service, sourcing and supplying medical and laboratory equipment to meet the unique needs of each study. From single-site trials to complex, multi-country programmes, we ensure our customers have the right equipment, in the right place, at the right time, enabling them to focus on delivering successful clinical outcomes, wherever their trials take place.

How will you make an impact & Requirement Role Mission

The Associate Admin supports the day-to-day administration, maintenance, and availability of IT infrastructure and end-user computing systems. This role helps ensure a reliable and secure technology environment by performing routine system administration, user support, monitoring, and operational tasks.

Working under close supervision, the Associate Admin provides first-line technical support, assists with system improvements and automation, and contributes to business continuity through effective documentation and adherence to established IT processes. This internship is a part-time position, with a requirement to work 2 days per week. Candidates must be available to attend the office on both working days.

Key Responsibilities

  • Install, configure, and maintain server and workstation hardware, operating systems, and approved software solutions
  • Perform routine system administration activities, including patches, upgrades, and preventative maintenance
  • Monitor system performance, availability, alerts, and logs to identify and address operational issues
  • Provide first-line technical support to end users, diagnose issues, and escalate complex problems when required
  • Assist in incident management and service restoration activities to minimize disruption to business operations
  • Develop and maintain basic automation scripts and configuration templates to improve operational efficiency
  • Execute and validate backup and recovery processes in accordance with organizational standards
  • Support user account administration, Active Directory management, and access provisioning activities
  • Maintain accurate technical documentation, runbooks, asset inventories, configuration records, and change logs
  • Coordinate with vendors, procurement teams, and internal stakeholders for hardware provisioning, maintenance, and warranty support
  • Assist with security administration activities, including compliance checks, vulnerability scans, and implementation of baseline security controls
  • Support software deployment, licensing management, and asset lifecycle tracking
  • Follow established IT policies, procedures, and service management practices
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing system reliability and user experience.

What We’re Looking For

We are looking for a proactive and detail-oriented early-career IT professional with a passion for technology and customer service. The ideal candidate enjoys solving technical problems, follows established processes, and is eager to learn and develop their systems administration expertise. Success in this role requires strong communication skills, a collaborative mindset, and the ability to work effectively within a structured IT environment.

Essential skills and experience:

  • Studying towards or holding a qualification in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related discipline, or equivalent technical/vocational experience or education
  • 0–3 years of experience in IT support, systems administration, infrastructure operations, or a related technical role
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Windows Server and Windows desktop operating systems
  • Basic understanding of Linux operating systems and administration concepts
  • Familiarity with Active Directory user and group management
  • Understanding of networking fundamentals, including TCP/IP, DNS, and DHCP
  • Knowledge of IT service management (ITSM) and ticketing systems
  • Basic scripting and automation skills (e.g., PowerShell, batch scripting, or similar tools)
  • Experience supporting backup and recovery processes
  • Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving capabilities
  • Excellent organizational, documentation, and record-keeping skills
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills with the ability to support technical and non-technical users
  • Ability to work under close supervision while following established procedures and escalation processes

Desirable (but not essential):

  • Industry certifications such as CompTIA A+, Network+, Microsoft Fundamentals, or similar
  • Exposure to cloud platforms such as Microsoft Azure or Microsoft 365 administration
  • Familiarity with endpoint management tools such as Microsoft Intune, SCCM, or equivalent solutions
  • Experience with infrastructure monitoring and alerting platforms
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity best practices and compliance frameworks
  • Exposure to virtualization technologies such as VMware or Hyper-V
  • Experience supporting software deployment and patch management processes
  • Understanding of IT asset management and software licensing practices
  • Previous experience working in a corporate enterprise IT environment
  • Familiarity with automation and configuration management tools.
