Heartfelt Mental Health Internship
Position: Clinical Intern
Location: Washington - Virtual
Reports to: Kat (Director of Outpatient Services) & Kate (Clinical Director / Owner)
We are seeking a motivated and compassionate Clinical Intern(s) to join our team, with a focus on providing affirming care to the 2SLGBTQIA+ community. This position offers a hands-on learning experience in a supportive environment, with the opportunity to gradually lead group therapy sessions and contribute to the development of group curricula. The ideal candidate will be eager to build clinical skills, including in suicide ideation de-escalation, safety planning, and group facilitation, while receiving mentorship from experienced clinicians.
Key Responsibilities
Individual Counseling
- Provide one on one individual counseling utilizing appropriate modalities and techniques under the supervision of site supervisor and university supervisors.
- Chart individual sessions, adhering to clinic standards and relevant state and federal guidelines.

- Willingness to eventually lead group therapy sessions independently while being observed by supervising clinicians.
- Take initiative to create and develop new group therapy sessions and focuses based on clinical observations, milieu needs, and therapeutic goals.
- Co-facilitate daily therapy groups with the opportunity for growth into leading sessions as primary facilitator.
Documentation & Client Records
- Complete daily group therapy notes for each client, with three group therapy notes required per client per day.
- Ensure documentation is accurate, timely, and compliant with clinical standards.
- Conduct intake assessments for new clients, evaluating their appropriateness for treatment based on clinical judgment.
- Provide feedback and recommendations to Kat regarding client suitability and any observed concerns.
Clinical Support & Development
- Seek support from Kat or Kate when needed for clinical guidance, case consultations, or general supervision.
- Take initiative to ask questions, advocate for oneself, and actively participate in supervision and feedback sessions.

Crisis Management & Safety Planning
- Able to develop skills in de-escalating suicidal ideation and creating effective safety plans for clients in crisis alongside lead clinician.
- Collaborate with supervising clinicians to enhance expertise in handling high-risk situations.
Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in graduate-level program in counseling, psychology, social work, or a related field seeking practicum experience.
- Passion for providing affirming, inclusive care to the 2SLGBTQIA+ community.
- Strong desire to develop clinical skills in group therapy facilitation and safety planning.
- Comfortable with self-advocacy, asking questions, and seeking support when needed.
