Internal Auditor
Internal Auditor, Internal Audit & Risk Team – Leading West London Local Authority
Salary: GBP40,404 per annum plus benefits Location: Central West London
[Hybrid Working Model]
2 days per week in the office 3 days per week remote
About the Role
Are you an experienced Internal Auditor with strong expertise in local government, council services, or housing sector governance frameworks?
A premier permanent opportunity has opened within a leading West London Local Authority for an experienced auditor to play a key role in their Internal Audit and Risk Team, providing excellence in assurance, governance, and risk management across diverse public sector functions.
Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver end-to-end internal audit assignments
- Review financial, operational, and governance controls
- Conduct interviews with management teams, both operational and senior
- Develop audit testing strategies and execute fieldwork
- Identify risks, weaknesses, and control failures
- Produce concise, high-quality audit reports with recommendations
- Present findings and align action plans with stakeholders
- Support risk management and continuous service improvement initiatives
- Provide professional governance and financial advisory, including value-for-money considerations
- Assist with data analysis and reporting to senior management and Audit Committees

Requirements
Essential Experience
- Experience within an Internal Audit function
- Recent hands-on delivery of internal audits and follow-up reviews
- Proven ability to produce written audit reports and present findings to stakeholders
- Strong skillset in analysing complex information and delivering evidence-based recommendations
- Deep understanding of governance, risk, and control frameworks
- Exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills
- Ability to work independently while balancing multiple priorities

Qualifications
- Partially Qualified or Professionally Qualified in Internal Audit (eligible credentials include: CIA (1, 2, or 3), MSc Internal Audit) or comparable certification or
- Significant years of demonstrable experience within an Internal Audit function
Sector-Specific Requirements
- Mandatory compliance: Must hold Internal Audit experience specific to a Local Authority, Council, Housing Association, or similar public sector environment
- Private sector experience only candidates: Theoretically ineligible for consideration.
