About The Role

Cleo is growing, in terms of headcount, products, workflows and geographies. We’re looking to hire an internal controls expert who can expand on our already solid foundations, and scale financial processes with us as we increase in scope and complexity.

Reporting to the Reporting & Tax Lead and a key part of Core Finance, this role is an exciting opportunity to be our founding Internal Controls team member and have a material impact on the business and our trajectory.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with designing, building and owning the internal controls framework across financial reporting, compliance and operational processes
  • Manage our external audit relationship from a controls perspective.
  • Create scalable playbooks for new product and entity launches through continuous review of internal controls.
  • Design and run a programme of control testing and self-assessment across all major business processes.
  • Lead a long-term project to work towards a controls environment appropriate for public company obligations (SOX 404 or equivalent).
  • Champion a controls culture across Finance and the broader business; this includes designing and leading training sessions to boost awareness and accountability

What We're Looking For

  • Big 4 experience - ideally in the controls or internal audit team, but if you’ve been working in external audit, we’d still love to hear from you.
  • ACA, CIA or equivalent qualification preferred
  • Experience (either in-house or from a client perspective) in Fintech or regulated Financial Services companies is highly beneficial.
  • Hands-on experience designing and/or testing a controls framework from scratch.
  • Familiarity with SOX 404, COSO or equivalent.
  • Hands-on experience designing and/or testing a controls framework from scratch.
  • Exposure to multi-entity or multi-jurisdiction environments
  • Collaborative mindset - striking the balance between enablement and auditing
  • Strong communicator - able to translate complex technical topics to non-technical stakeholders
