Where will you be working?

As an organisation, there is little we don’t do and plenty to get involved in. Our Group Support roles are vital in making sure we can help over 11,000 people deliver essential infrastructure seamlessly across water, energy, transport and telecom.

This role is in our Plant & Fleet department, Plant & Fleet supports teams across our business with their vehicle, plant and specialist equipment needs. Come join a great team in a business that's growing.

What will you be doing?

As Internal Hire Controller, you will be responsible for the day-to-day deployment and coordination of plant & fleet assets, including General Plant & Tools, commercial vans and heavy goods vehicles, ensuring availability meets business demand.

Working closely with the Internal Hire Manager and wider Hire team, you will support the delivery of the plant & fleet strategy by maximising asset utilisation and operational efficiency. You will be responsible for:

  • Managing all hire requests received via the Hire ticketing system, ensuring they are processed accurately and within agreed timescales.
  • Raising & closing Hire contracts, asset transfers and contract amendments using the hire management software (InspHire / Key2)
  • Support the reduction of external hire expenditure through effective use of internal assets.
  • Optimise asset utilisation through proactive deployment and reallocation of plant and fleet assets.
  • Act as a liaison between the Compliance and Service Centre (CSC) and customers, ensuring calibrated items are exchanged appropriately and stock levels are accurately maintained.
  • Prepare and submit Asset Disposal Applications in coordination with CSC, regularly reviewing asset age profiles and stock levels, and ensuring disposal invoices are generated.
  • Conduct weekly asset audits, ensuring InspHire and Key2 systems reflect accurate and up-to-date asset statuses.
  • Build and Maintain strong relationships with M Group Services Businesses’ to support effective collaboration and seamless operations
  • Demonstrate proficiency in all aspects of rental management and general administration and system usage
  • Contribute positively as part of a team, supporting colleagues to meet deadlines and achieve objectives, and deliver high standards of customer service.

What You’ll Bring

  • Relevant experience within Plant or Fleet industry in a similar role
  • Experience using asset or hire management systems, knowledge of Insphire or Key2 is advantageous
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build effective relationships with colleagues and customers
  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • Proven IT Skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, Outlook and Word.
