Internal IT Manager

Senior Desktop Support Engineer

Location: London (with hybrid working model) Employment Type: Permanent

About the Role

Aquis Exchange is seeking a Senior Desktop Support Engineer to champion the evolution of our Microsoft endpoint and server estate across London and Paris. This is a hands-on leadership role where you will:

  • Manage a small, growing Desktop Support team
  • Lead 3rd line escalations for hardware/software issues
  • Oversee PKI and certificate lifecycle management
  • Develop and enforce MDM policies, patch standards, and Windows environments
  • Support cross-functional collaboration with Linux and Network teams

The role blends technical ownership with team leadership, ensuring the reliability and security of endpoints across a hybrid working environment, reporting to the Head of Infrastructure.

Primary Office: Aquis’ London hub (minimum 3 days in-office per week, hybrid model).


Key Responsibilities

Team Leadership

  • Lead and develop the Desktop Support team, providing mentorship, performance management, and strategic vision to maintain high operational standards.

Technical Ownership

  • Act as the lead for 3rd-line desktop support, troubleshooting escalated hardware/software issues to resolution for Aquis’ offices and remote workforce.

Microsoft Environment Management

  • Design, implement, and maintain:
    • MDM policies (Intune, Group Policy)
    • Patch management workflows
    • Active Directory and GPO structures for security, compliance, and software deployment

PKI & Certificate Lifecycle

  • Manage the issuance, renewal, and revocation of certificates via AD CS (internal PKI) and third-party CAs, ensuring continuous authentication for endpoints/users.

Hardware & Software Standards

  • Define and enforce build standards for hardware/software compliance and licensing (auditing enforced company-wide).

Process & Documentation

  • Ensure adherence to IT procedures (change control, joiner/mover/leaver workflows).
  • Produce technical documentation (configurations, runbooks, incident records).

Project & Vendor Coordination

  • Plan and execute IT projects (software rollouts, hardware refreshes, upgrades).
  • Collaborate with vendors to procure hardware/software (balancing cost, schedule, and approved standards).

Cross-Team Collaboration

  • Work functionally with Linux/ network teams, providing operational support or coverage where needed.

Required Skills & Experience

Edge Expertise

  • 5+ years in enterprise Windows support (torrential troubleshooting experience).
  • Hands-on administration of Microsoft Servers 2016/2019/2022:
    • Advanced knowledge of Active Directory, GPO, DHCP, DNS, and NPS.
  • Proven PKI expertise (Active Directory Certificates Services, internal/third-party CA integration, Intune for certificate deployment).
  • Microsoft 365 experience (Intune, SharePoint, Teams) in a scalable, regulated environment.

Specialist Certifications

  • Intune deployment & compliance expertise (device enrolment, Microsoft Endpoint Manager).
  • Troubleshooting of VPN connectivity and networking issues in distributed environments.
  • Patch management & endpoint security methodologies (vulnerability remediation, compliance reporting).

Cultural Fit

  • Experience in regulated financial/critical industry (familiarity with audit processes, change control).
  • Prioritisation skills with a can-do, proactive mindset (balancing speed vs. accuracy).
  • Clear communication of technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
