Process Operator (PO)
We have an opening for a Process Operator (PO) to join our team here at Felinfach to operate and control the manufacturing process within specified procedures and Critical Process Control Points to support the efficient achievement of the production Plan.
The PO is a member of the production team at Felinfach reporting directly to the Shift Production Manager. This department is made up of four production teams with each team consisting of two Shift Production Leads (SPL) and eleven Process Operators as well as the Shift Production Manager (SPM) who is responsible for the whole department.
The teams cover the full range of manufacturing functions required to operate the manufacturing processes for both animal nutrition and human nutritional products. The PO will need to build a strong, collaborative and trusting working relationship with each other and their counterparts within the Operations Department. Close communication needs to be established with the Process Technician and the Shift Production Manager and across other departments in respect of daily production planning, and especially in respect of the supply of processing materials, and for the supply of by-products to the respective manufacturing operation and finished product within the factory. Communication is also required with the Process Maintenance Engineer in respect of process planned maintenance. The PO has no direct reports.
Principle Accountabilities
- Plant operation to adhere to planned production schedules in terms of both output and quality.
- Effective communication within the processing team and across the whole site.
- Responsible for the delivery of performance against the following Key Performance Measures:
- Plant Utilisation & performance (OEE)
- Adherence to plan
- Yield and Wastage
- NCP – right first time
- Compliance with HACCP food safety CCP's
- Hygiene Score
- Dangerous Occurrences and Accidents
- Control of effluent discharges

Principle Responsibilities
- Operation, after training, of the Operation of the WPI process, Lactose, intake & ultrafiltration, evaporator, spray-dryer, blending & packing systems, and warehouse operations using both manual and automated process control systems, such that the daily production plans are achieved, and in compliance with all BMS operating requirements.
- Carry out all relevant quality and process control checks, record on specified log sheets and initiate immediate corrective action where appropriate.
- Carry out plant repairs and routine maintenance, where training has been provided, and report on specific process performance and plant maintenance issues.
- Ensure that all daily stock records are completed accurately and on time.
- Ensure that food hygiene policy and food GMP procedures are always adhered to, and that all associated records are completed accurately.
- Responsible for the full implementation of the AFI FF at Work Policy Statement at all times.
- Comply with company and specific factory requirements relating to AFI FF policies and management systems.
- Responsible for the full implementation of the HACCP Food Safety Management System applicable to the food ingredient manufacturing process, and for reporting and taking immediate corrective action in respect of critical control point failures.
- In the absence of the Process Technician, report to the Shift Production Manager, on plant status and performance, quality, hygiene, and production planning.
- Carry out duties as required by the SPM which are deemed to be within the scope of existing knowledge, experience, and training.
- Assistance with training for new technicians as required.
- Responsible for minimising all waste streams from the process, and for reporting and taking immediate corrective action in the event of any spillage to drain.
- In the event of an emergency on site, responsible for the immediate implementation of appropriate crisis management procedures.
- Responsible for the communication of appropriate and relevant information to ensure the smooth management of the overall site at Felinfach (both external & internal).
