Internal Sales Executive – Robotics & Automation
Location: Taunton, Somerset (predominantly office-based with some travel at the discretion of the business)
Salary: £32,000 – £38,000 + performance-related bonus
Type: Full-time | Permanent

SCM Handling is a specialist provider of bespoke robotic and automated handling solutions for the food & beverage, logistics, and FMCG (Fast-Moving Consumer Goods) sectors.
With over 20 years of experience, we design and deliver high-performance systems including:
- Palletising
- De-palletising
- Sub-zero automation
- Roll handling
- End-of-line solutions
Our focus is on engineering excellence, reliability, and long-term partnerships.
The Opportunity
This is a key commercial role within the business, working closely with senior leadership to develop and progress new business opportunities.
You’ll play a hands-on role in shaping bespoke automation solutions, supporting projects from initial enquiry through to quotation, while building strong relationships with customers across multiple sectors.

Key Responsibilities
- Manage inbound customer enquiries and assess project requirements
- Prepare budget estimates, quotations, and detailed proposals
- Work closely with the Sales Director and Operations Director to qualify and develop opportunities
- Support the external sales team with follow-up, pipeline development, and customer engagement
- Engage with prospects to understand applications and help shape tailored automation solutions
- Proactively generate new business opportunities through outreach and LinkedIn activity
- Maintain accurate records of enquiries, quotations, and activities within the CRM system
- Identify opportunities for repeat business, upgrades, and new applications
- Support marketing initiatives, including campaigns, case studies, and events
- Work towards individual and team sales targets
About You
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in internal sales, technical sales, or an engineering-led environment
- Strong communication skills, able to engage both commercially and technically
- Confident, professional telephone manner and customer-facing approach
- Self-motivated, proactive, and comfortable taking initiative
- Highly organised with strong attention to detail
- Able to manage multiple enquiries in a fast-paced environment

Technical Skills
- Proficient in MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint)
- Interest in automation, engineering, or industrial systems is advantageous
- Experience using CRM systems is desirable but not essential
