About This Role
At Wells Fargo, a global and award-winning bank, we are seeking an experienced professional to join our Compliance and Operational Risk Department as the senior leader responsible for Technology Function coverage supporting international business activities.
The Senior Risk Manager / Head of Compliance & Operational Risk (Technology) is a critical role based in the United Kingdom, requiring responsible oversight for compliance and operational risk management of Technology as a function.
The Core Focus
Acting as a subject matter expert on regulations and operational risks relevant to Technology, ensuring proactive risk management across globally applicable standards, including emerging tech risks like Artificial Intelligence (AI). Collaboration with US and international teams through Wells Fargo’s global CIB human resources and resource infrastructure is essential.
Rooted in Wells Fargo’s Independent Risk Management (IRM) team, this role ensures adherence to federal, state, agency, legal, regulatory, and corporate policy requirements, while providing governance, oversight, and rigorous challenge around operational risk exposures arising from failed internal processes, systems, or external events.
Key Responsibilities
Security, operational efficiency, and regulatory compliance are non-negotiable for leading Wells Fargo's Technology function. This senior-oriented role includes:
Strategic Oversight & Leadership
- Function as Senior Contribution to the Technology team’s Compliance and Operational Risk management, with accountability for Data Management, Information Security, and AI-related risks aligned with Corporate and Investment Banking (CIB), Commercial Banking, and Global Payments and Liquidity.
- Serve as a subject matter expert, advising on regulatory frameworks, with expertise on the AI risk landscape, its emerging threats, and the need for technological adaptability.
Risk & Compliance(v2) Advisory & Control

Provide proactive value-add advice on:
- Technical regulatory compliance pertaining to Technology.
- Operational risk gaps.
- Effective monitoring and escalation of emerging risks.

Serve as a trusted risk partner engaging closely with Technology functions and lines of business to ensure risks are identified and addressed proactively.

Partner in business-led projects involving new technological initiatives to raise the bar on risk awareness and mitigation.
Global Collaboration & Influence

Engage with International Operational Risk and Compliance teams to deliver expertise in:
- Regulatory change management.
- Risk assessments (1st & 2nd line).
- Policy development and training.
- Monitoring and reporting.

- Make time-sensitive decisions, escalate appropriately, and advocate for compliance excellence at governance forums such as committees. Collaborate with colleagues across global enterprises, ensuring adherence to Wells Fargo’s risk and compliance needs.
Talent & Operations Management
- Manage development, execution, and monitoring of compliance & risk programs in:
- Technically complex areas that may span multiple lines of business.
- Holistic risk management frameworks.
- Ensure risk mitigation strategies are aligned with business objectives, without compromising operational efficiency.
- Lead initiatives that shape high-impact risks — taking a hands-on approach around talent development and aligning it with human resources objectives.
Education & Qualifications
A robust blend of expertise and qualifications defines this role’s success:
Industry & Regulatory Expertise
- Master’s degree/Relevant University Degree with a strong academic standing, preferably in law, finance, or risk management.
- Demonstrated professional experience/competency (such as society member/chartered qualification) in Compliance/Operational Risk compliance or risk management frameworks within financial institutions. Preferred qualifications: CORP, CAMS, SSCP, CISSP, or CFA.
- CIB/proficiency equivalent with experience navigating corporate governance, risk management, or legal challenges in Financial Services.
Technical Proficiency Required

Operational Risk Management expertise:
- Technological maturity and resilience engineering knowledge, including disaster recovery, incident management, network security, and asset lifecycle management. Depth of knowledge in assessing systems such as:
- Availability & accountability effectiveness in intricate environments.

Information Security expertise:
- Advanced understanding of frameworks (NIST, ISO 27001).

- Data governance, data architecture, and protection, including:
- Data classification, compliance, and lifecycle management.
- Integrity & alignment of privacy & secure data transmission with regulatory demands.
