Director, International Tax - Europe
A leading international real estate investment and asset management platform is seeking a Director, International Tax - Europe to support its European investment, asset management, and fund operations. Based in either Amsterdam or London, this role will oversee pan-European direct and indirect tax compliance, reporting, and advisory matters across a complex real estate investment structure.
The successful candidate will act as a strategic tax partner to investment, legal, finance, treasury, and corporate development teams, providing guidance on cross-border transactions, fund structures, holding company platforms, acquisitions, disposals, transfer pricing, VAT, withholding taxes, and broader tax governance matters. The position will work closely with senior stakeholders and external advisors across Europe, the UK, and the United States to support compliant and tax-efficient growth.
Responsibilities
Tax Compliance & Reporting
- Oversee direct and indirect tax compliance across European entities, investment vehicles, holding structures, and real estate SPVs.
- Manage relationships with external tax providers and review tax returns, tax payments, calculations, and supporting documentation.
- Maintain and enhance the European tax compliance framework, including filing calendars, controls, governance procedures, and tax documentation.
- Prepare and review income tax provisions under both IFRS and US GAAP, including current and deferred tax calculations and uncertain tax positions.
Transaction & Structuring Support
- Partner with investment, legal, treasury, finance, and corporate development teams on tax structuring for:
- Acquisitions and disposals
- Fund vehicles and investment platforms
- Holding companies and SPVs
- Joint ventures
- Refinancings and internal reorganisations
- Support transaction execution through tax due diligence, reviewing transaction documentation, and providing practical solutions throughout deal lifecycles.
- Assist with underwriting and cash repatriation strategies, including withholding tax planning, treaty benefits, interest limitation considerations, and minimisation of tax leakage.

Transfer Pricing & International Tax

- Manage transfer pricing policies and compliance for intercompany arrangements, financing structures, management fees, and asset management activities.
- Coordinate transfer pricing documentation, implementation, and monitoring with external advisors and internal stakeholders.
- Prepare technical tax analyses and memoranda covering:
- Cross-border tax planning
- Treaty interpretation
- Permanent establishment risks
- Corporate residency matters
- Substance requirements
- Investor and fund tax reporting
VAT & Indirect Tax
- Lead VAT and indirect tax matters across multiple European jurisdictions.
- Oversee VAT registrations, filings, recoveries, transaction analyses, and invoicing requirements.
- Coordinate with advisors to ensure compliance with local indirect tax obligations.
Tax Risk & Governance
- Monitor tax legislation and regulatory developments impacting European real estate investment structures, including:
- BEPS and Pillar Two
- ATAD
- Anti-hybrid rules
- Interest limitation regimes
- Withholding taxes
- VAT developments
- Local real estate taxation
- Manage tax authority audits, enquiries, and assessments across multiple jurisdictions.
- Identify tax risks and present recommendations to senior leadership.
Process Improvement
- Drive efficiencies and automation across tax reporting, compliance workflows, documentation management, and advisor coordination.
- Support broader tax initiatives, including new market entries, restructuring projects, fund reporting requirements, CRS/FATCA matters, and other strategic initiatives as required.
Requirements
- The ideal candidate will be a commercially minded international tax professional with strong technical expertise and the ability to operate effectively within a fast-paced investment environment.
- Minimum 8 years of international tax experience, gained within real estate, asset management, private equity, financial services, corporate environments, or professional services.
- Strong experience across European and international tax matters, including:
- Corporate tax
- Withholding tax
- Tax treaties
- Transfer pricing
- VAT and indirect taxes
- Tax reporting
- Cross-border transactions
- Exposure to fund structures, holding companies, SPVs, financing arrangements, and real estate investment platforms is highly desirable.
- Experience supporting M&A transactions, restructurings, tax due diligence exercises, and advisor-led compliance processes is advantageous.
- Bachelor's degree in Tax, Accounting, Law, Fiscal Economics, or a related discipline required.
- Master's degree and/or relevant professional tax qualification preferred.
- Strong sense of accountability and ownership

- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex tax matters clearly to non-tax professionals.
- Advanced Excel and financial analysis capabilities, particularly in relation to transaction structures, tax modelling, funds flow analysis, tax provisions, and transfer pricing.
