Role Overview

Plan and coordinate European transport operations, working with subcontractors and owner drivers to ensure efficient, cost-effective delivery across the UK and Europe. Drive operational performance by optimising routes, maximising utilisation, resolving issues proactively, and supporting profitable freight forwarding activities.

Client Details

Our client is a well-established and growing freight forwarding business based in Dartford specialising in European road transport. With a strong reputation for service delivery and operational excellence, they work closely with a network of owner drivers and subcontractors to provide reliable, cost-effective logistics solutions across the UK and mainland Europe.

Due to continued growth, they are now seeking an International Transport Planner to join their operations team.

Description

Reporting into the Operations Manager, the International Transport Planner will be responsible for coordinating and optimising daily international transport movements.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Planning and coordinating collections and deliveries across the UK and Europe
  • Allocating work to a network of owner drivers and subcontractors
  • Maximising vehicle utilisation and minimising empty running
  • Monitoring delivery schedules and proactively resolving operational issues
  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with transport partners
  • Ensuring all transport activities are commercially viable and cost-efficient
  • Supporting revenue growth through effective freight forwarding opportunities
  • Maintaining accurate operational data, pricing structures and system updates
  • Handling invoice queries and supporting KPI reporting

The successful International Transport Planner candidate will have:

  • Experience within road freight operations or transport planning
  • Strong understanding of UK and European transport networks
  • Excellent organisational and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management capabilities
  • Commercial awareness with a focus on cost control and profitability

Desired:

  • Experience planning European road freight movements
  • Exposure to owner driver and subcontractor networks
  • Knowledge of key European markets (e.g. Benelux, France, Italy)
  • Understanding of freight forwarding and margin management
