Job Summary
University Hospitals Birmingham seeks a dynamic and highly motivated Interventional Radiology Consultant with an academic and research interest to join our expanding Interventional Radiology team in a substantive post. This is an exciting opportunity to work within one of the largest and most advanced NHS Trusts in the UK, serving a diverse population and delivering complex tertiary care.
The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering high-quality IR services across UHB, supporting elective, emergency, and on-call IR pathways. The candidate will also be expected to have a secondary interest in abdominal cross-sectional imaging and participate in complex pancreatitis MDT.
You will join a well-established, friendly, and forward-thinking multidisciplinary team dedicated to innovation, training, and excellence in patient care.
Main Duties, Tasks & Skills Required

- State-of-the-art IR suites and hybrid theatres
- A full range of complex tertiary services including spinal, respiratory, trauma, transplant, oncology, vascular surgery, and hepatobiliary surgery

Job Description
Key Responsibilities
- Provide expert, consultant-level Interventional Radiology services across vascular and non-vascular specialties.
- Participate in the IR on-call rota, contributing to 24/7 emergency IR provision.
- Deliver high-quality outpatient, inpatient, and day case interventional procedures.
- Work collaboratively with clinical colleagues including surgery, oncology, hepatobiliary, trauma, renal, and critical care teams.
- Contribute to service development, quality improvement, and strategic planning within IR.
- Supervise and support registrars, fellows, and advanced practitioners.
- Participate in audit, governance, and teaching as part of UHB's commitment to excellence.

- Are GMC registered doctor (or eligibility)
- Hold FRCR or equivalent qualification
- Have CCT in Interventional Radiology with fellowship in Interventional Radiology/abdominal imaging

- Demonstrate strong communication, teamwork, and leadership skills

Person specification
Qualifications
Essential
- MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
- FRCR or equivalent
- Minimum of 5 years clinical experience.
- Minimum of 3 years clinical experience within chosen sub-specialty area
- Ability to verify complete details of employment history.
- Available to start within 4 weeks of interview
- CCT in Interventional Radiology.
- Evidence of Continuing Professional Development including CME
