About the Role
National Grid is casting its net for a dynamic Investment Accountant to join our NGED CFO team, dedicated to delivering regulatory outcomes for our IT & Digital (IT&D) function.
In this role, you’ll be the financial backbone of high-volume, high-stakes projects, ensuring:
- Accurate financial tracking—cost management and forecasting for projects.
- Comprehensive reporting—supported by analytics and decision-making tools.
- Compliance & governance—ensuring financial controls align with corporate and regulatory policies.
Based at our Warwick office, this is a flexible role that may require travel across NGED sites with a hybrid model. Expect at least two days in-office, but flexibility is encouraged.
Key Responsibilities

Project Financial Reporting:
- Develop and maintain financial reports tracking spend-by-project for IT&D stakeholders and Investment Reviews.
- Work closely with finance business partners, project teams, and programme delivery managers to ensure costs (actuals and forecasts) are thorough, accurate, and time-aligned with project progress.

Cost Recognition & Compliance:
- Ensure project costs are timely recognised and accounted for.

Forecasting & Consolidation:
- Run consolidation and review processes for monthly forecasts, including risks and opportunities for in-flight and unsanctioned projects.
- Oversee alignment of approved forecasts with annual budgets/business plans to finance business schedules.

Month-End & Data Management:
- Prepare timely, consistent monthly reports adhering to finance timetables.
- Utilise Excel and data manipulation skills to build scalable financial models.

Process Improvement:
- Advocate for the implementation and solidification of new financial processes.
Requirements
To thrive in this role, you’ll need:
- A fully qualified accounting qualification (e.g., ACA, ACCA, CIMA).
- Expertise in major accounting systems, budgeting, forecasting, and financial performance reporting—preferably in a large, international corporate environment.
- Experience across high-volume projects with proven commercial-business acumen (e.g., stakeholder management, data stewardship).
- Ownership and initiative: independently coordinating processes until they’re fully operational.
- Strong communication: articulate expectations and deadlines to all stakeholders (technical/non-technical).
- Problem-solving mindset: guide both finance and non-finance teams in optimising financial controls for electricity project transparency.

- Base Salary: Up to £57,000 (dependent on experience).
