Investment Banking Analyst, Services & Industrials
Full-Time Assistant/Associate – Transactions

Summary
Execute rigorous financial analysis and research to support William Blair’s Investment Banking team in new business development, transactions execution, and investment banking product delivery. Perform valuations, financial modeling, due diligence, client presentations, and relationship-building while mentoring less experienced professionals.
Key Responsibilities
Financial & Valuation Analysis
- Conduct extensive due diligence, valuation, and financial modeling for:
- Mergers & Acquisitions (M&A)
- Capital raising transactions
- Equity and debt valuation
- Develop multiple analytical approaches and methodologies once foundational frameworks are established.
- Apply core valuation techniques, including:
- Comparable Company Analysis
- Precedent Transactions
- Discounted Cash Flow (DCF) modeling
Client & Project Support
- Collaborate with Investment Banking team leads to gather client needs, document findings, and deliver concisely structured presentations.
- Assist in proposal development, marketing collateral, and sales support materials—highlighting William Blair’s competitive approaches.
- Participate in client meetings, presentations, and drafting sessions.
- Support client relationship development by anticipating needs, responding professionally, and enriching client understanding.
Research & Industry Insights
- Research emerging market trends, sector dynamics, and macroeconomic factors relevant to William Blair’s advisory services.
- Contribute to BIC (Business Information Center) content, leveraging cross-deal learnings to inform future strategies.
- Identify process inefficiencies and propose optimizations to streamline workflows.

Training & Leadership
- Mentor summer interns and junior analysts, sharing best practices and fostering continuous professional development.
Compliance & Miscellaneous
- Ensure all activities align with firm policies, regulatory requirements, and internal standards.
- Address additional responsibilities as directed by leadership.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree (any major) or equivalent professional qualifications
- Internship or prior experience in financial services (ideally M&A, equity research, investment banking, or related fields)—essential
- Proven ability to thrive in a high-pressure, analytical, and fast-paced environment.
- Strong financial acumen in areas such as:
- ** Valuation methods (DCF, multiples, comparable analysis)**
- ** Corporate finance and accounting fundamentals**
- Technical and analytical skills
- Proficiency in Excel (advanced financial modeling)
- Familiarity with financial databases, industry tools, and CRM systems (e.g., Bloomberg, FactSet, Salesforce)
- Soft skill Competencies
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational ability
- Strong verbal and written communication (reporting, drafting memos, proposals)
- Ability to work independently and multi-task under tight deadlines
- Adaptability to switch between projects with minimal notice
- Collaborative mindset with drive to succeed
- Travel requirement: Up to 5% over the course of the role.
