Investment Banking Analyst – Mining & Metals
Overview
National Bank of Canada Capital Markets (“NBCCM”) is an indirect wholly owned subsidiary of National Bank of Canada (“NBC”). The main strategic purpose of NBCCM is to enable the NBC Group (“NBC Group,” meaning National Bank of Canada and all its subsidiaries) to grow and diversify its presence in Europe, Asia & MENA while allowing for a natural development of its existing business relationships and the establishment of new ones in the global markets.
NBC has over 150 years of history and is currently the 6th largest Canadian bank. Through its branch and subsidiary network, NBC can service clients throughout North America, Europe, Asia & MENA. NBC’s strategy is to further develop NBCCM as its hub for trading and financial services in Europe.
What We’re Looking For
National Bank of Canada Capital Markets’ Mining & Metals Investment Banking team is seeking an Investment Banking Analyst to support deal execution and origination activities in London, UK. This role is suited to candidates with prior full-time investment banking experience, ideally covering the mining & metals or natural resources sectors.
As an Investment Banking Analyst, you will play a key role in supporting transaction execution and industry coverage activities, gaining significant exposure to complex advisory and financing mandates. Responsibilities will progressively increase, offering strong development opportunities within a specialist sector-focused franchise.
Your Job
- Evaluating and analyzing the financial needs of corporate clients, including building complex financial models and performing valuation analysis
- Supporting deal teams with transaction structuring in addition to executing advisory and financing mandates with increasing levels of responsibility and accountability over time
- Preparing presentation materials to support our clients’ capital decision making
- Drafting marketing materials for transactions, including deal-related investor presentations, prospectuses, and related documentation
- Conducting company and industry research and analysis
- Performing various tasks supporting senior team members in their deal execution and client coverage efforts

Basic Requirements
- At least 1 year of experience in investment banking, transaction advisory, equity research, capital markets, or other related fields
- Undergraduate or graduate degree in finance, accounting, economics or engineering is preferred, with a track record of strong academic performance
- Strong knowledge of financial theory, accounting, and capital markets
- Experience in, or knowledge of, the mining & metals or natural resources sectors would be valued
- Demonstrated financial modelling skillset, with experience developing complex, dynamic financial models
- Exceptional proficiency with Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
- Experience with Bloomberg and Capital IQ would be considered an asset
- Demonstrated problem-solving mindset, collaborative approach and great team spirit
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build trusted relationships
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
