Investment Manager / Senior Investment Manager / Associate Director / Director
Location: Bristol (Hybrid)
About the Role
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join a growing and highly regarded discretionary investment management team. The role is offered at Investment Manager, Senior Investment Manager, Associate Director or Director level, depending on experience.
You'll play a key role in delivering tailored investment solutions to high net worth (HNW) and ultra-high net worth (UHNW) clients, managing discretionary portfolios while building long-term trusted relationships.
The business operates a collaborative, centralised investment process, with Investment Managers working closely alongside an experienced Research team to develop and refine core investment strategies. This approach delivers consistency in portfolio management while providing genuine input into investment decisions and client outcomes.

The Opportunity
You will be responsible for managing discretionary portfolios across a range of client complexities, ensuring investment decisions align with clients' objectives, risk profiles and time horizons. Depending on your level of experience, you may also:
- Lead complex client relationships
- Contribute to investment strategy and asset allocation discussions
- Mentor and develop colleagues
- Support proposition development and business growth
- Help shape the future direction of the investment management team
Working closely with Private Bankers, Financial Planners and other specialist colleagues, you'll combine technical expertise with exceptional relationship management to deliver outstanding client outcomes.

- Develop tailored investment recommendations based on client objectives, financial circumstances and risk appetite.
- Manage discretionary portfolios in line with agreed investment strategies.
- Monitor portfolio performance and ensure ongoing suitability.
- Maintain high standards of investment governance and documentation.
Client Relationship Management
- Build and maintain trusted relationships with HNW and UHNW clients.
- Deliver exceptional service through proactive communication.
- Lead complex client relationships where appropriate.
- Work collaboratively with internal stakeholders to provide holistic client solutions.
Investment Research
- Contribute to market analysis and investment research.
- Form investment views across asset classes.
- Translate market insights into practical portfolio decisions.
- Participate in investment committee discussions where appropriate.
Commercial Contribution
- Support client retention and relationship development.
- Identify opportunities for new business growth.
- Work with referral partners and colleagues to deliver investment solutions.
- Contribute to the ongoing development of the investment proposition.
Governance & Risk
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and internal policies.
- Maintain robust investment governance standards.
- Identify and appropriately manage investment and conduct risks.
- Support a strong culture of accountability and client-first decision making.
Leadership (Senior Appointments)
- Coach and mentor junior colleagues.
- Support succession planning and team development.
- Promote collaboration and knowledge sharing.
- Lead strategic projects and continuous improvement initiatives.
Candidate Profile
We're looking for an experienced investment professional who combines strong technical capability with excellent relationship management skills.

Experience & Qualifications
- Proven experience in discretionary investment management within a private client or wealth management environment.
- Experience managing HNW and UHNW client portfolios.
- Strong understanding of portfolio construction, suitability and ongoing investment management.
- Level 6 investment qualification (CISI, CFA or equivalent).
- Statement of Professional Standing (SPS), or the ability to obtain one.
- Excellent understanding of FCA regulatory requirements and investment governance.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret economic and market data.
- Commercial awareness with experience supporting client growth and retention.
For more senior appointments, experience of leading complex client relationships, mentoring colleagues and contributing to investment strategy is highly desirable.
