Purpose

The successful candidate will act as the lead Technology Analyst within the Global Equity team and support the Investment Director in the management of Disruptive Growth strategies.

The role encompasses fundamental research, idea generation, portfolio construction, risk management, and client engagement. As Investment Manager, the individual will play an active role in investment decision-making and contribute to the continuity and robustness of portfolio oversight, as well as exchanging ideas across other investment teams and writing thought leadership papers.

A key component of the role is the effective use of artificial intelligence tools and data-driven techniques to enhance research quality, efficiency, and insight generation within the investment process.

Main Duties & Responsibilities

Investment Research & Idea Generation

Lead coverage of global technology companies and associated themes (e.g. software, semiconductors, digital infrastructure and related areas). Generate high-conviction investment ideas through rigorous fundamental analysis and due diligence. Leverage artificial intelligence tools and advanced data techniques to enhance research processes, including idea generation, data analysis, pattern recognition, and synthesis of large information sets. Evaluate the strengths, limitations, and appropriate application of AI tools within investment research, ensuring outputs are critically assessed and appropriately validated. Monitor existing portfolio holdings and recommend actions aligned with investment strategy and risk parameters. Maintain deep expertise in assigned sectors, identifying emerging opportunities and risks.

Portfolio Management & Risk

Contribute to portfolio construction, asset allocation, and risk management across Disruptive Growth strategies. Support the implementation of investment strategy across client portfolios, ensuring alignment with mandate guidelines and investment objectives. Recommend and, where appropriate, execute investment decisions in accordance with delegated authority and internal governance processes. Monitor portfolio risks and performance, contributing to ongoing strategy refinement.

Investment Process & Collaboration

Participate actively in investment meetings, contributing to team-based decision-making. Collaborate with other investment teams to exchange insights and continuously improve research methodologies, including the application of AI-enabled tools. Incorporate ESG considerations systematically into research and investment decisions, working closely with the GAM Sustainability team.

Client & Business Development

Support client relationship management through participation in client meetings, portfolio reviews, and presentations. Contribute to investment commentary, thought leadership, and client reporting materials. Articulate the team’s investment approach, including the use of technology and AI to enhance research capabilities. Partner with distribution and client teams to support business development and asset growth initiatives.

Governance & Controls

Ensure all investment activities comply with client mandates, regulatory requirements, and internal policies. Promptly escalate and report any breaches, errors, or control issues in accordance with GAM procedures. Maintain appropriate documentation and transparency of investment decisions and processes, including the responsible use of AI tools where applicable.

Regulatory Responsibilities

Operate in accordance with applicable regulatory frameworks (e.g. FCA or relevant local regulators), including Principles for Businesses and conduct of business requirements. Demonstrate due skill, care and diligence in all investment activities, including the responsible and controlled use of AI-supported tools. Where applicable, fulfil responsibilities associated with controlled or certified roles, including maintaining appropriate competence and regulatory awareness. Ensure effective delegation where required, with clear accountability and oversight. Comply with all GAM policies and procedures.

Qualifications/Market Experience

Approximately 5+ years’ experience in equity research and/or portfolio management, with a strong focus on global technology or related sectors. Proven track record of fundamental, long-only equity investing. Experience contributing to or managing equity portfolios, including portfolio construction and risk management. Demonstrable experience using artificial intelligence or data-driven tools to enhance investment research processes and outcomes. Strong analytical skills and familiarity with investment tools and systems (e.g. Bloomberg, Excel, portfolio analytics platforms). Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Finance, Economics, Business, or a relevant technical field. CFA or equivalent professional qualification preferred. Solid understanding of regulatory and market frameworks applicable to investment management. Demonstrated ability to contribute to the development and scaling of an investment strategy and team.
