Who we are
Institutional Retirement is the only insurer to have been operating continuously in the UK market from our entrance in 1987 to the present day. Our UK retirement annuity book stands at an estimated £86.1 billion at 31 December 2023.
Across our retail and institutional retirement businesses, we look after more than 1 million customers, around c.700,000 of whom are institutional customers who have had their retirement benefits secured with us.
Job Description
We’re looking for an Investment Manager to join our growing Risk Sharing team. This is an exciting opportunity to help shape innovative asset‑backed solutions that optimise our balance sheet and support the wider group’s strategic goals. Working collaboratively across multiple business areas, you’ll contribute to structuring, analysing and delivering transactions involving assets such as mortgages, property and fund‑finance exposures. What you'll be doing:
- Developing asset‑backed solutions by working with internal teams and external partners to share or distribute selected risks
- Building and enhancing financial models to evaluate opportunities, incorporating risk, return, capital and regulatory considerations
- Designing solutions that optimise the portfolio’s risk profile and support investment performance
- Drafting and presenting governance materials, engaging stakeholders to build support for new initiatives
- Collaborating across teams such as Asset Management, Group Treasury, Finance, Legal, Risk and Tax to ensure seamless implementation of transactions
- Strengthening relationships with internal and external stakeholders to support market engagement and deliver high‑quality outcomes
- Originating, pitching, negotiating and executing risk‑sharing transactions with third‑party organisations
- Demonstrating behaviours aligned with our values, including prioritising fair customer outcomes
Who we're looking for:
- Undergraduate degree in a quantitative discipline (e.g. Mathematics, Physics, Finance, Computer Science) or Accounting/Management, or equivalent experience
- Experience in structured finance, fixed‑income products or insurance, ideally gained within a bank, insurer, asset manager or consultancy
- Skilled in developing complex, dynamic financial models for debt or asset‑backed investment analysis
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with confidence working with senior stakeholders
- Comfortable working in a fast‑paced, evolving environment and delivering high‑quality outcomes to deadlines
- Collaborative approach, with the ability to build positive working relationships across multiple teams
- Strong MS Excel capability, with additional modelling tools beneficial
- Initiative, adaptability and a proactive mindset when solving challenges
