Product Manager (Investments) – AJ Bell Investments

As our product range continues to evolve, we're looking for an experienced Product Manager to play a key role in shaping, governing, and developing our authorised fund range and Managed Portfolio Service (MPS).

This is an opportunity to join a collaborative, high-performing investment business where you'll:

  • Influence product strategy
  • Work closely with senior stakeholders across the organisation
  • Ensure our products meet the highest standards of governance, customer value, and regulatory compliance

Responsibilities

As Product Manager, you’ll take ownership of the governance and ongoing development of our investment product range throughout its lifecycle. Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading and developing a team supporting the AJ Bell Investments product range
  • Owning the product approval process for new funds, share classes, and Managed Portfolio Service launches
  • Leading the design, enhancement, and review of investment products, ensuring alignment with:
    • Customer needs
    • Commercial objectives
    • Regulatory requirements
  • Producing and maintaining Fair Value Assessments in line with Consumer Duty, including:
    • Identifying trigger events
    • Escalating value-for-money concerns
  • Monitoring customer outcomes and maintaining:
    • Consumer Duty management information
    • Key performance indicators (KPIs)
  • Supporting marketing and distribution of products, including:
    • Production and review of product documentation
    • Collaboration on go-to-market strategies
  • Building strong relationships with stakeholders across:
    • Investment Management
    • Risk
    • Compliance
    • Legal
    • Operations
    • Distribution
  • Presenting updates to governance and committee meetings, including deputising for the Head of Product where required
  • Monitoring competitor activity and market developments to:
    • Strengthen the AJ Bell Investments proposition
    • Identify strategic opportunities
  • Leading and supporting strategic projects that enhance the investment product offering

Requirements

You’ll bring significant experience in investment product management, governance, or development, ideally within:

  • An asset manager
  • A discretionary investment manager
  • A wealth management business

Essential Criteria

  • A Level 4 investment qualification, such as:
    • Investment Management Certificate (IMC)
    • CISI Diploma
    • Equivalent qualification
  • At least five years’ experience in:
    • Investment product management
    • Product development
    • Fund governance
  • Strong knowledge of:
    • The FCA Handbook (COLL, COBS, SYSC)
    • Consumer Duty implementation (e.g., Fair Value Assessments, target market reviews)
    • Authorised funds, Managed Portfolio Services (MPS), and discretionary management
  • Exceptional stakeholder management skills, able to build credibility across:
    • Investment Management
    • Risk
    • Compliance
    • Legal
    • Operations teams
  • Experience operating in a first-line risk environment, identifying and mitigating risks
  • Strong written communication skills for:
    • Governance papers
    • Committee reports
    • Regulatory documentation
  • Previous team leadership or management experience

Beneficial (but not required)

  • Experience with UK investment platforms
  • Knowledge of:
    • Platform due diligence
    • Fund data distribution
    • Passive investing
    • Retirement solutions
    • Responsible/sustainable investing
  • Awareness of Sustainability Disclosure Requirements (SDR)
