iOS Engineer
iOS Engineer – Starling Bank
About the Role
Starling is the UK's first and leading digital bank on a mission to fix banking! We built a new kind of bank because we knew technology had the power to help people save, spend and manage their money in a fairer, easier, and more transparent way.
As a fully licensed UK bank with the culture and spirit of a fast-moving, disruptive tech company, we empower over 3,000 employees across London, Southampton, Cardiff, and Manchester. Our technologists thrive in a flat, collaborative environment, guided by five core Starling values: Listen, Keep It Simple, Do The Right Thing, Own It, and Aim For Greatness.
Our hybrid working approach requires at least 1 day in the office per week (for our Technology team), balancing flexibility with in-person collaboration. We’re building a cutting-edge fintech platform—entirely in-house, mostly in Java—and now we’re looking for iOS Engineers to contribute to our Swift-based mobile app.
The Engineering Environment
We’re customer-focused technical builders who care deeply about clean, secure, and accessible code. Our iOS app—used by over 300K customers (top-ranking finance app, average 4.9-star rating)—is built with.Threading in mind, with key details:
- Codebase: 100% in Swift, using MVVM-C architecture for modularity and testability.
- Reactivity: RxSwift for streaming data, complex states, and asynchronous flows.
- Layout: In-house framework built on SnapKit, offering declarative, SwiftUI-like layout for UIKit.
- Persistence: Realm as the main database layer.
- Code Generation: Sourcery & SwiftGen for repetitive tasks.
- Quality Assurance: SwiftFormat, SwiftLint, Danger to enforce consistency.
- Developer tools: Custom frameworks and scripts to boost productivity.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
