ISS Project Coordinator
Project Coordinator – In Service Support
Department: In Service Support Location: Portsmouth
About the Role
CMS2, specialists in advanced manufacturing and critical maritime systems, is seeking a Project Coordinator to work in the In Service Support (ISS) Team, coordinating and supporting complex engineering projects.
This key role is responsible for the successful management and delivery of CMS2’s customer spares and repair projects, ensuring adherence to standard workflows and internal processes. Reporting directly to the ISS Technical Manager, this position also requires support for the broader ISS team while building strong stakeholder relationships to drive projects to successful completion.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure end-to-end project management of CMS2’s spares and repairs projects, from Request for Quotation (RFQ) through quotation generation, governance, contractual requirements, and delivery — including post-delivery customer service aligned with respective contract terms.
- Coordinate customer Requests for Orders (RFOs) through internal systems to generate acaccurate quotations, ensuring compliance with governance and contractual obligations.
- Source required parts, working closely with CMS2’s Supply Chain and Stores teams to fulfill individual customer spares and repairs orders.
- Act as the primary point of contact for CMS2’s existing MoD (Ministry of Defence) customer for spares and repairs projects.
- Maintain updated Spares Live Trackers with timely data inputs to reflect project status.
- Produce detailed reports and real-time updates for the ISS Technical Manager as required to support decision-making.
- Assist in the implementation and operation of CMS2’s MRP (Materials Requirements Planning) system, offering support to the ISS team.
- Ensure customer price lists and stock records remain accurate and compliant with CMS2’s standards.
- Collaborate with all internal functions to streamline spares and repairs contract processing throughout the business.
- Provide necessary documentation for Spares and Project materials, ensuring compliance with both customer and CMS2 Quality Standards.
- Perform ad-hoc duties as needed to fulfill the ISS department’s operational requirements, including occasional site visits or travel.
- Commit to professional development to maintain up-to-date skills and knowledge.

- Represents CMS2 as appropriate, maintaining strong customer and inter-team relationships.
- Demonstrates confidence in delivering technical projects, from initialisation through to post-delivery support.
Essential Skills, Knowledge, & Expertise
- Strong multitasking ability ensuring organization and coordination across multiple enquiries and stakeholders in a pressurised operational environment.
- Proven ability to manage standard technical projects with expertise in sales coordination, initiation, and delivery, including post-delivery support.
- In-depth experience with inventory, materials management, stock control, and production processes.
- Ability to forecast projects effectively, including resource allocation and financial budgeting.
- Demonstrated track record of successful customer engagement and order fulfilment aligned with contractual agreements.
- Proficiency in Excel, Word, and experience with MRP/ERP systems.
- Knowledge of import/export legislation and compliance standards.
- Qualifications including GCSE (or equivalent) in Maths and English.
- Excellent communication, delivering accurate spoken information when working with both external and internal customers.
- Self-discipline, meticulous attention to detail, and a structured approach to work.
- Proactive mindset with the flexibility to adapt to evolving business demands; empathetic, respectful, and client-focused.
- Security considerations: Must hold or be eligible to obtain a SC (Security Check) security clearance.

Desirable Skills
- Degrees or certifications (HNC/HND/Technical Degree) in a related field, or project management qualifications with technical experience.
- Experience within a Defence environment.
- Exposure to team management in the workplace.
Travel Requirements
- Travel may occasionally be required to customer sites or Science Group locations across the UK, occasionally resulting in out-of-hours attendance.
Additional Requirements
- Certificate of Rights: Valid permission to work in the UK.
- Security Clearance: Candidates must already have access to or be able to obtain SC Security Clearance.
- Applicants require having been UK residents for 5 years (minimum) for SC clearance obtainment.
- For Basic security clearance, standard is at least 3 years UK residency.
