Our Client & The Requirement
This UK company is an award-winning environmental consultancy that is independent and employee-owned. The company has experienced significant growth over the last few years and provides multidisciplinary services to clients throughout the country across areas such as planning, impact assessment, landscape design and ecology.
To support their continued growth plans, they are now looking to recruit an experienced Technology (IT) Director who will lead meaningful change in a respected, values‑led consultancy; to operate at an executive level with genuine influence; and to further shape how the company uses technology to deliver its work.
Role Purpose – The Opportunity
Our client’s Technology Strategy sets out a clear ambition to develop how they use technology, data and digital capability to strengthen how they deliver projects, collaborate across disciplines, manage risk and support sustainable growth. The Technology Director will play a central role in turning that ambition into reality.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to shape how technology enables this company’s services over the coming years – ensuring that their platforms, tools and ways of working support high‑quality, efficient and resilient project delivery across all disciplines. This includes leading the adoption of new tools and platforms, strengthening their use of data and visualisation, and ensuring that emerging technologies such as AI are adopted in a way that is pragmatic and responsible as well as carefully aligned with our values.
Working closely with the Management Board and other key Directors, the Technology Director will influence strategic priorities and investment decisions, helping to balance innovation with robustness and opportunity with risk. The role will require sound judgement, the confidence to challenge where appropriate, and the ability to translate strategic intent into clear, deliverable plans.
Core Experience & Traits Needed
- Experienced IT Leader with management experience in a business of equivalent size (Annual revenue per annum within the £25m-£75m range)
- Ideally experience or working within consultancy and services companies
- Track record of implementing new technologies to drive business transformation and operational efficiencies – with demonstrable understanding of the importance of bringing stakeholders along in the process
- Experience of working alongside a managed service provider
- Extensive knowledge of Microsoft environment, including MS365 and Azure
- Experience of managing cyber / information security and other governance policies and processes
- Relevant technical and professional qualifications / accreditations e.g. ITIL and Prince2
- Hands-on as well as strategic
- Collaborative and willing to engage with users across the business
- Budget / vendor management skills
- Strong project management skills and experience
- Engaging and effective communicator
