Role Title & Overview

Job Title: IT Engineering Manager

As an IT Engineering Manager, you will lead our engineering teams to ensure the secure and stable deployment and management of live services across our enterprise. We are seeking an experienced individual with a deep understanding of IT operations and infrastructure to provide strategic direction, foster a culture of accountability and continuous improvement, and develop high-performing engineering teams. This role involves balancing demanding day-to-day operational requirements with the delivery of improvements and transformation.

Strategic Leadership & Transformation

  • Provide strategic direction for IT operations and infrastructure, driving ITIL maturity and embedding consistent service management practices.
  • Achieve measurable improvements in service reliability, change management, and continuous improvement.
  • Balance immediate operational needs with long-term operational improvements and transformation initiatives.

  • Coach and mentor engineers and leaders, setting clear role expectations and capability frameworks.
  • Build a culture that fosters ownership, engagement, and accountability, enabling individuals to perform at their best.

Operational Excellence

  • Ensure the health, resilience, and performance of business-critical platforms and services.
  • Maintain day-to-day operational performance, availability, and reliability of IT services.
  • Lead major incident response and drive effective Incident, Problem, and Change Management processes.

Cross-functional Collaboration

  • Collaborate with architecture, security, and project functions to ensure fit-for-purpose and supportable solutions.
  • Work with senior IT and business stakeholders, communicating service outcomes effectively.

Risk & Compliance

  • Own and manage technical and operational risks, ensuring compliance with relevant standards.

Essential Qualifications & Experience

  • Extensive experience as an IT Engineering Manager (or equivalent) managing large technical teams in a large enterprise environment.
  • Strong background in both operational service management and delivery and change.
  • Proven track record working with 24/7 business-critical IT platforms and services.
  • Experience leading operations across multiple technical disciplines:
    • End User
    • Infrastructure
    • UC and Voice
    • On-Prem and Cloud
  • Familiarity with ITIL or similar service management frameworks.
  • Excellent people-management capability, including managers and senior engineers.
  • Strong incident, problem, and operational governance experience.
  • Experience balancing high-volume BAU responsibilities with operational enhancements and strategic change programmes.
  • Exceptional organisation skills, confident in evolving and reactive environments.
  • Strong decision-making skills, balancing risk, speed, and stability, while driving accountability.
