IT Field Engineer

IT Field Engineer - Salary up to £37,500

We are looking for a practical, organised and customer-focused IT Field Engineer to join our growing IT Department.

Excelcare is a privately owned care provider with 31 care and nursing homes, a homecare division, and several expanding businesses. We support over 3,500 users across multiple locations.

This role is perfect for someone who enjoys:

Daily Responsibilities

As an IT Field Engineer, your role will involve visiting sites across:

  • London
  • Essex
  • Milton Keynes
  • Cambridge
  • Surrounding areas

You will provide IT installations, upgrades, and support across care homes, offices, and operational sites. No two days are the same—tasks can include:

Headquartered at our Support Office in Bromley, Kent, your working hours are 9:00am - 5:30pm, Monday - Friday.

Key responsibilities include:

Installations & Maintenance

  • Travelling to sites using a company pool vehicle to deliver IT equipment and infrastructure hardware
  • Installing and supporting:
    • Switches
    • Wireless access points
    • Routers
    • Associated network equipment
  • Assisting with Meraki, DrayTek, and Starlink installations following company standards
  • Configuring and deploying:
    • Laptops
    • Desktops
    • Printers
    • Mobile devices
  • Maintaining and installing:
    • Structured cabling
    • Patch panels
    • Network cabinets

Support & Documentation

  • Providing onsite IT support when remote solutions aren’t suitable
  • Taking site photographs and maintaining installation records
  • Producing simple rack layouts, cabinet diagrams, and equipment location drawings
  • Keeping Freshservice ticketing system updated
  • Assisting with site relocations, equipment moves, and new site setups

Office & Scalability Tasks

  • Completing preparation of equipment
  • Supporting stock control activities on-site
  • Escalating complex issues to senior engineers when needed

About You

To succeed in this role, you must meet the following essential criteria:

  • Full UK driving license (essential)
  • 1–3 years’ experience in IT support, field engineering, or technical support
  • Practical hands-on approach with building, configuring, and troubleshooting technology
  • Experience with:
    • Installing/supporting network equipment (switches, routers, WiFi – access points)
    • Microsoft 365 and Windows 11
    • CAT5e / CAT6 structured cabling
    • Maintaining technical documentation and records
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication and customer service
  • Organised with great time management skills
  • Attention to detail and attention to company records
