Field Operations Engineer (6 Month FTC)
London
Are you a hands-on IT professional who thrives in dynamic, fast-paced environments? We’re looking for a Field Operations Engineer to join our team and play a key role in delivering reliable, high-quality technical infrastructure across our sites.
About the Role
As a Field Operations Engineer, you’ll be responsible for executing technical deployments, maintaining IT infrastructure, and providing on-site support for end-user systems. You’ll collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless operations across visa application centres and other locations. This role involves both technical expertise and field-based work, including travel where required.
What You’ll Be Doing
Technical Deployment
- Deliver on-site IT setups and support activities
- Perform racking, cabling, and installation of servers, switches, and equipment
- Work closely with network engineers on configuration and deployment
- Supervise contractors and ensure quality delivery
- Travel locally and internationally as needed
Maintenance & Support
- Maintain OS installations, applications, and security updates
- Monitor infrastructure (cooling systems, UPS, PDUs) to prevent downtime
- Troubleshoot and optimise IT systems and equipment
- Support printers, scanners, biometric devices, and kiosks

Surveillance & Endpoint Management
- Manage surveillance systems (e.g., QVR Pro, access control)
- Oversee user accounts, devices, and compliance
- Ensure endpoints are secure and regularly updated
Procurement & Asset Management
- Coordinate procurement of IT equipment
- Maintain accurate asset inventory and records
- Collaborate with procurement teams for cost-effective sourcing
Additional Responsibilities
- Work with vendors for maintenance and service contracts
- Support audits and resolve findings
- Escalate incidents and ensure timely resolution
What We’re Looking For
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent
- 2+ years’ experience in IT systems engineering
- Hands-on experience with deployments, cabling, and hardware setup
- Strong knowledge of:
- Routers & switches
- Virtualisation (e.g., VMware)
- Microsoft Active Directory
- Familiarity with: Linux (RHEL/Debian), Windows Servers, PowerShell, Bash, MacOS
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities
- Comfortable working in international, multicultural environments
- English proficiency (B2 level or above)
